Very happy with that performance overall. Like others have said, silly mistakes cost us yet again. We really need to sort these out. Sterling was great, should definitely start the next game. Offers more to the team than Downing and Borini put together.

    My ratings

Reina: 7 - Done well when needed, but was out of position for the first goal.
    Kelly: 7 - Again a solid performance
Coates: 6 - Started off very shakily and gave away some silly passes, but got better as the game went on
Skrtel: 7.5 - Done well overall. Took his goal very well. Very silly mistake for their goal though
    Lucas: N/A
Shelvey: 7.5 - Good performance from Shelvey, you can see how much better he is when he has good players around him (Not Adam)
Allen: 8.5 - Very happy with him. Passing was immaculate as ever. Made some very clever runs and interceptions too.
Gerrard: 7.5 - Started out pretty poorly, got a hell of a lot better towards the second half.
Borini: 6.5 - Pretty quiet again. Done well to get into a couple of good positions and should've buried the chance from the Sterling cross.
Suarez: 7.5 - Good performance from Luis. Chased down players, created space. Should've scored a couple of times but great freekick.
Sterling: 8 - Cracking little player. Brave, quick, intelligent. Great couple of crosses and runs and a great first start.

I would have given Skrtel full marks until he assisted Tevez.

Super goal from Suarez. I could see how confident he was before he hit it.

Having seen his free kicks in the past I was confused about why he didnt take any last season.

Hopefully now Sterling becomes a big part of BR's plans - his first PL start and sets Anfield alight.

Allen was immense, going to ba an absolute bargain at 15mil.

Suarez his usual self - very impressed with his never give up attitude.

Skrtel great performance - impeccable, except the one clear **** up.

Good signs though - overall a very good performance, they must be kicking themselves not getting all three points.

Could we try to sell him, QPR are stupid and have lots of money perhaps we can convince them he's worth 10mil or more

Less than a quarter of his passes are not passed forward. Saying that, I would still have given Raheem the motm award.

The young lad on the wing looked decent. I thought Shelvey and Suarez were red cards waiting to happen though.

We cant get carried away with Sterling. We don't want him getting injured. He needs protecting to make sure his career has longevity.

Assaidi and Downing will likely play just as much as he did.

Rogers will have research City and seen that Sterling was the best way to counter them. Great stuff.

Harsh on Coates. apart from the first 15 mins when City were on top I thought he was excellent. Made some brilliant tackles and look good. I think Carragher must know his days are numbered now.

Yeah, Coates really impressed me today. Surprised me a little too with how composed he looked at times, infinitely better than Carragher was on Thursday night.

You didn't see him break up play, find players in little pockets between the midfield and back 4 then? The guy does the simple things easily and if you had 10 outfield players that played the game as simply as him then you would be on to a winner.

People forget football is a simple sport. Pass the ball to your own players and it's players like Ben Arfa etc that complicate things by trying to run past 5 players on their own. It's easier to make the ball do the work and pass it round players than it is to run past them.

It is harsh to say Carragher's days are number. He is 34. His not being rejected, his role is just changing. Carragher still has a part to play.

Don't get me wrong I love Carragher, but he's not quick, not composed enough and is 4th choice CB at best. I think he knows that this season is probably going to be his last.

Very true. Europa games, plus the odd cameo in the PL - for me his most important job now is to help mentor the up and coming youngsters.
