Something that has been mentioned on here at great length gets even greater exposure today - though it took AVB to speak out against lame Spurs support to make it headline news. http://www.express.co.uk/comment/co...Andre-Villas-Boas-is-right-to-break-the-taboo This part seems particularly relevant, not only to Spurs fans but poignantly NCFC fans too :
I fear gandy that an even sadder truth is, that most of them probably do get it, but still do it anyway.
How true RBF. Over the years I've witnessed more than a few inept displays. I've suffered inner turmoil, sworn inwardly, gone home and kicked the cat, but I can honestly say I've NEVER booed my team. (I lied about the cat though)
Here's another - quite lengthy piece, that also deals partly with fans expectations and disgruntlement if the team fall short of achieving those. Good stuff from Ed Couzens-Lake http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...-has-been-thrashed-out-of-the-beautiful-game/
The "Terror of the Trowse Training Ground!" An excerpt from an early seventies interview: "As far as the players are concerned, what did you find?" RS "A mixed bunch. Some good players, some not so good. Some good types of players as individuals, some not so good types, and obviously the problem was to sort them out "What was the first thing you did?" RS "Sorted 'em out!"
What gets me is the arrogance (and ignorance) of the 'You don't know what you're doing' chanters. Do they know the extent of RvW's toe injury? No. Do they know Hooper's current match fitness? No. Do they know how destructive their booing and chanting is? No. What they want is more important than any other consideration.
in fact, hughton said afterwards that elmander was his only 100% fit striker at the moment. i mean, it didn't take a genius to see that rvw coming on so late was nothing more than desperation because he didn't really want to use him at all in case he hurt himself again. hooper did look leggy and with his recent injury its understandable that he didn't want to risk him for 90 minutes either. i just wish our fans would engage their brain a little more often. i was so embarrassed by the booing that i, and a number of others started telling them to shut up, only to then be told that we weren't proper fans because we weren't booing! i mean, some of our fans are an ignorant shambles at the moment!
It's part of the human condition isn't it? And the reason the news programmes are always full of bad news.Imagine if you switched on the news tonight and the presenter said "There wasn't a multi vehicle crash on the A11 today, which ensured that the traffic ran freely. In other news the government introduced sweeping reforms to the NHS and the benefits system. This all went smoothly and was the subject of widespread plaudits from patients and disability groups". We would all soon be tuned into Emmerdale Farm hoping to see a bit of mayhem, and that's just the quality of the acting.People do like to moan.I think we just need to accept it becausae it won 't be changing anythime soon. And that's right about Lambert. Some still moaned as we cut a swathe through two divisions and had a comfortable season in the top flight. If we got into Europe they would moan if we lost on penalties to Barcelona in the CL Final.
If Elmander is our only fit striker, what's happened to Becchio? Or is he not classed as a striker any longer?
I wish Hughton would come out with something similar. Then we would at least get a chance to see how he can do with a team where supporters are with them. I'd go as far as to say that I believe we would have won the match if the fans hadn't started shouting "you don't know what you're doing", because it was no surprise to me that as soon as it started, our play became more nervy and we started hoofing the ball when I hadn't seen a single one hit long until that point. Unfortunately, I suspect (a) Hughton's not as arrogant as AVB and (b) he doesn't feel his position is as strong as AVB; a combination of which means he won't speak up. If I was to highlight one shortcoming in Hughton is that he doesn't have swagger. It's a mixed compliment, but he is a little too nice. All swagger does is instils confidence in the supporters, but sometimes that is what's needed. It's another reason, Superman, why I highlighted yesterday about how AVB plans every last detail (including the dreaded "Plan B") - I've no doubt his media persona and calm confidence (arrogance) is carefully constructed and calculated.
DHCanary: If Elmander is our only fit striker, what's happened to Becchio? Or is he not classed as a striker any longer? I don't think CH actually said that DH, as he was only discussing the 3 strikers involved vs Cardiff. Sometimes these things drift a bit!
