Now that the window has finally closed, I think we can gather a collective sigh of relief in the fact that the club has managed to retain Pearcey and Ward, whilst losing young Ryan Williams. Ryan is a good little player but still had a lot to learn, so I reckon we and Fulham did OK with that one. David Lampitt must have something up his sleeve for him to refuse the offers that were coming thick and fast over the last couple of days. Either that or he's one hell of a gambler.
Something up his sleeve or hell of a gambler ?Lets hope its not the biggest mistake ever for you guys Its not what i would have wanted to see happen in this transfer window if i were a Pompey fan but i take my hat off ( if hes right )to you hard core Pompey fans for beliving Lampitt is doing the right things.
I heard the players refused to sign for the Tractor boys. If this is correct then it may have been out of the clubs hands
As Dev said on another thread, you guys really are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. Lampitt is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. You are still lumbered with the wage bill, yet good quality players that will make the club look a more attractive proposition. It's the trade-off you have to make...
Absolutely Rich....and if we do get a 10 points penalty ('cos I can see that's the next hurdle we'll get) then we'll need the strongest team we can field. As it stands, we're 10 points clear of Forest-who are 3rd bottom, with a far superior goal difference, so if the worse happens, at least we have a chance of staying put in the Championship, that is of course if we don't get liquidated beforehand
As things stand [thanks to Saturday's win] we'd still be outside the relegation zone - albeit on goal difference!
The media kept saying the offer was accepted by the club, but Jewell was quoted as saying that ITFC were dealing with the administrator. Appy wanted to keep them and they wanted to stay - the story is that they made ridiculous wage demands to scupper the deal - good on them
I have been thinking that the points deduction, when it comes, will be big enough to ensure we are relegated. Now I'm not so sure. David Lampitt was an insider at the FL so maybe there is a plan. He has always been pretty open and is now refusing to speak with anyone. There again he could be fuming because of a rebellion by the manager and his players. Whatever, squeaky bum time continues - mine is beginning to sound like a menagerie of mice!
"There again he could be fuming because of a rebellion by the manager and his players. " I think not LFIH. All the reports are saying that "the club" (not AA) turned down 3 bids for Pearcey. Appy said he hadn't spoken to Jewell for 2 weeks, (just 1 conversation with him) and yesterday Jewell was quoted as saying that he and Clegg (the ITFC Chairman) were dealing with the Administrator. Admin Andy appointed an agent called Phil Smith and he dealt with the Ryan Williams sale. It does sound like it was PS/AA dealing with the Hendo/Ward sale, not Lampitt, if Jewell is correct in what he says.
Well let's be honest, none of us know what is going on and all we can do is keep guessing and hoping. Either a knight in shining armour is about to come galloping over Portsdown Hill to recue the fair maiden Pompey, some other sort of deal gets cobbled together to allow us to limp on indeterminately or we go out with a bang against Ipswich in a couple of week's time. Ladies and gentlemen place your bets please. ,
