A great defensive display with Cattermole and Cuellar outstanding, saw a well earned point in soaring temperatures today.

Arsenal had lots of possession and on another day with a top striker (bless) may have taken one.

However, we were set up brilliantly by the gaffer and worked their bollocks off for the cause.

We had a couple of chances but nothing second half to be honest.

Saha came on but had no support but his touch looked canny.

All in all a great start and hopefully the end of the doom and gloom posts. We managed a good draw at a difficult ground. Think what we will do with the new lads in a few weeks.

I could not be more relieved, in the league we did not get a point off the Arse, so we are one point up against ATM. I am sure Whinger will go on about us parking the bus, they should not have sold their start striker to their enemies.

C'mon MoN get the strikers in...we can then offer a goal threat to any side.

Many will criticise you for negativity but it is a legitimate tactic and you did what you had to do. Keeping Arsenal out at the Emirates is a good performance and from watching the first half you could have even nicked it, well played.

Great point today, and if we can manage 3 points next week it would represent an excellent start to the season..

Exactly, had we gone and played attacking football, we'd have been slaughtered (especially with our strikeforce)

I'll hold my hands up and say I thought we'd get thumped. Mon has them bang on it again. Get the momentum going and who knows.

Still need more up front and next week will show is more. We know how to defend against the big teams, next week Reading will come and defend. Can we break them down?

Just back and still chuffed at the performance and tactics. O'Neill is such a canny manager and you can see the plan he has and the organisational skills that has made him a top manager for years. We had Gardener at full back and Larsson operating in central midfield which tbh, didn't work for Seb but he still gave his all.

Just a little side, at the end of the game, Martin came straight over to the fans and took the applause but his motives where elsewhere. Obviously asking Gardener to play RB (which he grew into in the game but obviously wasn't a favourite position) he put an arm around him and was chatting to him all the way back to the side line. He just has that knack of knowing what to say and to who at any given time and the 2 men were arm in arm.

Great manager and no wonder players are willing to run through walls for the man. On another side issue, Kieron (who also had a decent game tbf and I'm not his biggest fan at LB) ran over to the fans and threw his shirt into the crowd.

It looked very much like a farewell gesture to me and it wouldnt surprise me if something was imminent on his future? Could be wrong of course but it had that feel to it?

Thanks kidda and appreciated but remember, if the knacker craas didn't post on here in the first place I wouldnt get involved in giving them abuse? I come on here to have Sunderland crack with Sunderland fans.

Not a bad effort for a relegation quality squad lol. Hopefully some of the more nervous supporters here will feel a bit better now, particularly with the news of some of the names we have been linked with after the game.
