Sunderland fan in peace. Well done lads. Gutting to see us capitulate the way we did but really pleased for Koeman who took on a tricky job with all of the sales this summer. You lot have played a ****ing blinder in recovering from the "Exodus". Those who tipped you to struggle must be feeling a bit silly now. Best of luck!
I said this on your board and I'll say it again: Your fans that travelled today are a huge credit to your club, they were superb. They 100% deserve a full refund.
Cheers ANSD, that is very gracious of you. Wish I could say something nice about your team, but I'm afraid you were terrible today.
This sort of result happens. Not often, but it will happen to everyone. Don't get me wrong I'm devastated but it's important that Poyet gets the players to pay the fans back on the pitch over coming weeks now. You lot have shown why it's important to bring through English talent... Sell them at inflated prices and then replace them with utterly cracking imports and more youngsters. I don't know who's the architect of what you're doing but they're playing an utter blinder.
Was initially Nicola Cortese and Markus Leihberr...the plan was to set up a system that could withstand anyone leaving. It had worked, but most fans were guilty of forgetting this in the summer.
To be fair I can understand why a little panic would set in. It was a time of uncertainty to say the least. Dealt with beautifully.
I think you'll be fine this season. You've got a very good squad, Rodwell, Johnson, Wickham, Fletcher are all good players. Fletcher was giving us some problems before that er....comical first goal (sorry).
Thanks for the plaudits. It's a continuation of a philosophy started since the takeover in 2009. Koeman was chosen by Saints because he fitted the mould we wanted here. He didn't need to have a clearout as it was already happening when he turned up. Saints didn't want the other players to leave, but by getting massive fees for the outgoing players they were able to replace them and improve upon them. The incoming players were chosen for their qualities that would fit the Southampton way of playing, which is partly why everyone hit the ground running. Koeman has been utterly brilliant but there has been a plan behind it all.
Well, didn't expect them all to leave at the same time, there lies the problem. As the Mackem said......dealt with beautifully.
Thanks for your kind words. Honestly though, I have seen a lot, lot worse at St Marys than you guys. Newcastle just the other for example. Oh, and Newcastle last season too for that matter! This just happened to be the day where we didn't walk off the pitch having missed a whole stickful of chances. Yes your side gave up once the score got to 4-0, and for some of you that will be very hard to take. But it's not like you're going to find yourselves 4-0 down in every game. And ultimately, all it was did was impact on the scoreline, not the outcome. And yes, for that matter you also gave some shocking goals away. But yeah, without a doubt I have seen a lot worse than you. I agree entirely with Koeman. When we were 2-0 up, I was sitting there trying to work out how on earth we were. We hadn't played well; you guys were comfortably the better side for the first 20ish mins. Just don't play Vergini again. Ever.
Just don't play Vergini again. Ever. ____________________________ Gus will give him a new 4 year deal tomorrow.
I don't think Sunderland were THAT bad, they created some good chances in the first half. We were just so clinical. Newcastle weren't any better.
Well Poyet thinks some of their players gave up. Not consistent with a team who are not playing badly It will be interesting how he rallies them and who he drops next week. Obviously not my team but a fascinating storyline for next week regardless
Thanks for your kind words mate. Your away support were superb today, as they usually are. I agree with Jose Fonte Baby above, i also dont think that Sunderland were THAT bad today, particularly the first period of the game. It was a very odd game, and fair enough your defence made some really daft errors to gift us a couple of goals near the end, but we also played really well once we got going. I thought that this was going to be a hard fought 1-0 or maybe a 1-1 draw, but thats football for you !
They weren't. Some things went against them early in the game, they were a bit unlucky. After 3:0 the just gave up, and we were merciless.
For 20 minutes at the start, Sunderland were playing excellent football and were the better team. I thought I was at the wrong game. Steven fletcher played very well for an hour and then even he eventually gave up.
