brilliant lap to get pole position in red bull's weakest race. ferrari looked certai to get a front row lock out this weekend but that boy just keeps defying the odds. im not sure anyone can argue vettel is the best driver on the grid by a mile. especailly after finding out their kers system has only been running at 60% power all season - meaning once they get it sorted they will be even faster. i realise others find vettels dominace boring but for us vettel fans this is brilliant and i for one am loving it
With the KERS at 60% thing, I don't think that figure will go up (certainly not for 5-10 races) because thats the max output of their particular system at this time, they aren't downtuning it at all, thats genuinely the limit. Its a smaller system to reduce the need to cool it, and to give more aero gains.
I cannot believe what I saw: - Vettel locks up at the hairpin and misses the apex - He still gets pole I disagree about Vettel being the best driver - which I am more certain of after the BBC showed us his lap. Based on today's qualifying alone, I would say driver of the day is Felipe Massa, who did an excellent job and only just lost out to Alonso. As we know, he has problems getting the tyres to the optimum temperature, which of course is more evident in qualifying, so great job Felipe to almost beat Fernando. When you take into account that Felipe Massa's record at Canada is terrible, you have to say that Felipe Massa was brilliant today. We've only seen Vettel's lap onboard, so at this stage I can't comment on how good Massa was on his best lap, but based on everything else, Massa was the best driver today imo.
I thought you supported Alonso wakka? Or was it just me? ............ yeha i like them both, although the main reason for liking alonso is because he knocked MSC off his perch, i prefer vettel though alonso by second fave above button
So it turns out by "worst track of the year" Vettel meant "i might only get pole by 4 tenths rather than 8"
Vettel's polls now remind me of Jenson's wins in Virgin. He has to have his car set up some way that is letting him get so quick, the kers does not seem to have any influence as he didn't have it at the beginning of the season and still beat weber. As someone pointed out his flying lap had two drive faults yet he still won. Seems odd to me. How did Jenson's Virgin win him the championship several years ago, does anyone know as neither Jenson or Virgin have done very little since that year?
So it turns out by "worst track of the year" Vettel meant "i might only get pole by 4 tenths rather than 8" ......... tbf noone expected that lap, everyone was assuming it would be alonso or hamilton for pole. even the not606 stickied thread had most people say hamilton will be the best here. and who knows it might rain tommorrow and play into mclarens hands. i was expecting this race just like monaco to be damage limitation for vettel, i would still take second place for him right now. ferrari are very fast through the first 2 sectors and vettel has to fight off 2 of them straight away. i expect hamilton to get past webber from the start - he has no kers and starts of the dirty side 4 horse race tommorrow imo
does anyone know as neither Jenson or Virgin have done very little since that year? ........... bit unfair i mean apart from vettel who else has done anything since 2010? i reckon button is second only to vettel on total points won in the past 3 years.
Credit to Seb, put a fantastic time in when Redbull looked like they were in retreat, a lap that should always be remembered.
Fantastic lap, but not sure if he'll be able to win this 1. With the lack of DRS, as he'll start out front, surely he'll be a sitting duck down the straights, and then with a less powerful KERS system, he'll probably find it hard to get back to the guys, presumably a Ferrari, that's just overtaken him
Yes, but Button did nothing much before virgin either, pretty lack luster, then drove for virgin wis the championship. Obviously virgin had added advantages to their car that year that must have been removed/changed, so I do believe the same is occuring with vetel. i am not offay with all the car mechanisms, wing size allowed, kers, etc... , but considering weber was better than vetel last year for quite a few races (much to vettel's 'annoyance') and now is several poll places behind at each race - i still think there's something different about his car.
