Maybe the fellas should take a long look at the lasses, they might learn something. 3 successive titles and a move to the super league. Fair play to them http://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2013/may/ladies-secure-third-successive-title Ladies secure third successive title Published: 20 May, 2013 by Ashley Houghton Mulhern's side beat Cardiff to win National Premier League. Sunderland WFC 2 Cardiff City Ladies 0 Sunderland WFC secured their third consecutive FA Womenâs Premier League title with a 2-0 victory over Cardiff City Ladies at Eppleton CW. Goals from Sarah McFadden and Keira Ramshaw secured a fourth straight win for Mick Mulhernâs side who play their final game of the season against Leeds United next weekend before they move to the Womenâs Super League in the new campaign. The Lady Black Cats began with intent and were ahead after just 90 seconds; Ramshaw crossed for Beth Mead whose superbly struck volley was pushed for a corner by Rhian Nokes before McFadden volleyed home when the resulting corner wasnât cleared. Sunderland continued to dominate the first half and they went close to doubling their advantage when good interplay between Mead and Sophie Williams opened up space for the latter whose left footed shot went just wide. The visitors failed to exert any pressure on the Lady Black Catsâ backline until the latter stages of the first half when Kelly Aldridge cut in from the left to force Rachael Laws into a low save. The hosts continued their onslaught early in the second half as McFadden, who controlled the midfield throughout, fed Williams whose cross was perfect for Ramshaw but the winger placed wide from close range. Mulhernâs side, who have now scored 51 goals this campaign, sustained the pressure on the Cardiff defence but they were struggling to find the second goal as Vicki Greenwell crossed for Ramshaw to head narrowly wide. Sunderland did double their lead shortly after the hour mark; Meadâs cross across the six yard box caused problems for the Welsh outfitâs defence and, despite Ellie Smithâs best efforts, Ramshaw bundled home from close range. Cardiff improved towards the final 20 minutes and they went close to scoring when Paige Stewartâs 20-yard free-kick hit the bar. Aldrige saw her late header pushed over by Laws as the visitors applied late pressure but Sunderland held out to be crowned champions for a third consecutive season.
