Top job Swansea...best team in Wales and all that...

Now, I just wonder if this will shake up the board a little. I, for the life of me, can't imagine they believed 3 years ago that Swansea would get promoted before us!

I hope this is a real wake up call for the whole club to stand back and say "Wow...what a mess we have made of running this club."

Again, I am pleased for Swansea, but you have to say if we had of done things 20% better we should be in the Prem.

I can only hope they pick a manager with ambition but not arrogance (Hughton), and somebody who wants to build a club based on players who are committed to the club.

I hope we stop thinking that throwing money around gains promotion. No it doesn't. It gains a lot of inflated egos and puts a strain on our budget.

I don't care if we finish mid-table next season. I just want to know that my Bluebirds are in good hands and have a viable long term goal...not 6 months ones.

thanks for the kind words guys,
and all the best in the championship next season i think the championship next season is going to the hardest season for years there must be at least 12 clubs which think they are going to win it, all the best again

Banter and rivalry aside , I for one wanted both welsh clubs to go up if possible. I was quite happy around xmas time to envisage a scenario of cardiff promoted vis autos and swans to nick a play off spot and hopefully go on from there. Well we kept to our side of the bargain.....

I did not however want to meet cardiff in the playoffs as I felt the idiot minority (but not insignificant one on BOTH sides) would have overshadowed any game.

What I am trying to say ultimately is good luck for next season , and as long as we are not "swapping leagues" I would want Cardiff to make it to the promised land.

One final tip...don't go for an established manager who wants top wages. It hasn't got you anywhere before. You need a young hungry manager who wants to prove himself. All those of you wanting O'Neil are deluding themselves that that will bring you the much waited for success. It won't.

I'm glad to see a Welsh side in the premiership, but I would be lying if I didn't say I was gutted that its swansea and not us, I just hope that the jacks stay up, and we join them next year <ok>

Happy to add my good wishes to the Bluebirds. It would be hypocritical to say that I would be as pleased if the situation was reversed but now that we're safely there it would be great for Cardiff to join us next season. I emphasise JOIN, not replace.

    Sincere good luck, guys.

JOIN is the keyword there Ivor imo...though I'd settle for replace if I had too dude :)
A Prem derby would be awesome but...we've got to get there first. Hell, we've got to get a manager and a team first :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Are you saying Hughton is arrogant? Personally I don't see that in him, quite the opposite in fact. My worry with him would be that he took Newcastle back to the Prem with essentially a Prem quality side - something we don't "quite" have. Can he rebuild?

O'Neill would get us lots of press and interest but would he see us as just a stepping stone to something bigger 2/3 years ahead. How long has Fergie given himself?

De Matteo is my favourite, young, ambitious but with a bit of humility, keen and with fresh, continental ideas.

The Swans going up will undoubtedly make the Cardiff Board more determined to go up.

The only problem is that the Championship looks even tougher than last season. I can see Brighton making a serious challenge. West Ham are the obvious challengers from the relegated Clubs while the established clubs such as Leeds, Cardiff, Forest etc will ensure a massive dogfight for promotion ensuring that the Championship remains the best Division in terms of competition.

Not much separating Swansea & Cardiff this season . 3rd & 4th with 80 points . We had less stress & expectation though , & I believe that got got us over the hump . If Cardiff could just have a nice relaxing season without the drama off the pitch , they'd already be up .

Having heard the news on HUghes tonight, surely O'Neill will go for a Prem stepping stone with Fulham, also closer to his home. I'm with you on a younger, fresher manager like Di Matteo or the like.

It would be nice to have a board who have their pulse on the next new thing rather than imitating other recently successful new things. I do worry about the lack of football knowledge upstairs.

Could well be right. After all Al Fayed has a few bob to throw around to keep MON happy. He can always sell his Wacko Jacko statue to raise a few quid.

As for the board room, Gethin is a good guy and a quick learner. Borley and Whiteley have been around a while so will have some contacts in the game. So not as strong as some but not completely without some of the right skills.

any news on signings and the future?? anything on a manager yet? i totally agree with that in the way of 8 loans guys? thats a bit mad and i think starting again with the players you got might work well! i think establish again this year, not spending much but getting a team "together" then one big signing/loan next year or two for that push and we'll be seeing you! give it another few years and we'll see neath and wrexham in the prem hahah!

Barclays Welsh Premier League has a rice ring to it!:)

    Hi blue,
No i meant Hughton is not arrogant but is ambitious, and I think he is the man for the job. I don't think O'Neil would really consider coming here. On the Fulham boards they are saying that they are not high profile to get O'Neil. We are way out of his league.

Di Matteo just doesn't feel like the man for me, but i would happily give him a chance. :)

Hughton gets the thumbs up from me, would be happy with Di Matteo, Poyet (dont think we would get him) or Zola.

First of all I'm not having a go

    BUT

In my opinion the league is going to be even stronger next year and I can't see past west ham winning it and possibly Leicester going up 2nd. The leaves lottery of play off for another 4 teams. My point is Cardiff finished 4th this year in weaker league with a FAR stronger team than they are going to have next year. I mean you have lost bothroyd and burke two very very good players at this level. They will cost a fair few million to replace which is money you don't have. I would like both welsh teams to be doing well, makes rivalry more interesting BUT I fear for cardiff this year.

Other teams with potential next year forest, blackpool (increased funds and stronger, prem experienced players), brighton, southampton, birmingham, cardiff ( if go into more debt to strengthen)

Good luck next year anyway will be looking out for ur results

Eggo says Di Matteo or Hughton - no chance there then!!!

Also, does Sparky have unfinished business in Wales? Looks like Villa don't want him, he must have something in mind in resigning from Fulham.

Thanks for your kind and fair comments :) However, I think O'Neill would be a stunning appointment. Don't forget what he did at Leicester, taking a yo-yo team up to the PL, keeping them there and winning two major trophies. He hasn't failed at one job in his career and has even done time in the lower leagues with Wycombe (taking them from Conference to L1). I think, with backing, he'd be excellent! :D

I am proud of us Jacks being up there, playing the big boys. But i have to say will miss the derby very very much. So if you lot can get there next year and we stay. I get the best of both worlds. good luck guys, going to be difficult though.
