Right time. I even predicted he would retire long before knowing about his personal issues.

Good luck with all that is in front of you and keep your chin up.

He retired a year ago. Shame no one told Harry or Fernandes.

Knowing what we all know now I am amazed he managed to hold it together and ignore the abuse that was no doubt hurled at him on twatter by some our so called fans!

He is a husband and father foremost and must have been going through absolute hell.

I, for one, wish him all the best for whatever the future holds for him and his family.

Was a complete disaster as a player for us but it can't have been easy going through the ordeal of losing his wife.
I wish him well in trying to piece back together his life.

I wouldn't have put what he said in quite so few words but he really should have walked away to look after his wife. He had no interest in playing for QPR at any point and people are being better to him than he deserves.

Stunned that you can make light of someone losing their wife and the mother of their children so young. And someone who wore the hoops as well. Let's hope you never need compassion.

    Absolutely spot on.

At his peak he was one of the best centre backs in the World.

All the best Rio, to you and your family.

I did state that as a player he was a disaster for us, so hypocrite I don't think so. Because he didn't perform for us doesn't mean that I can't feel for the man in his current situation, but I wouldn't expect you to understand that.

No. We revised our attitude about his football in the light of new information we received while we were criticising his football.
Personally, I find your attitude appalling but as ever on this board, each to their own.

BBH you have said your bit...leave this thread alone now.
You have no idea what has gone on with the club.....perhaps he was paid, perhaps he wasn't.
All that we know is that he lost his wife, he has three children without a mother
Good luck in the future Rio

I might be wrong but I think his wife's illness was quite a quick one. I don't really see any problem in lamenting his terrible performances before all of that, and they really were embarrassing, even if you feel he's not to be criticised for how he played after it started.

Despite my sincere condolences to him on the recent loss of his wife, I wish he had made this decision a year ago and had never have been part of our club with his last hurrah, courtesy of Harry and the WHU old boys network.
I could have 95% predicted this outcome when he signed, and so did TF I believe, but HR talked him into it with the "back three CB" idea.

Not sure if his wife's illness had surfaced by Christmas (I think Nines mentioned it wasn't until March) , but that would have been another opportunity for him to realise that he could no longer cut it in the PL and retire honourably and save us some wage bill.

We cannot judge Rio i'm afraid. His wife was terminally i'll and football was not on his mind.
People should give the bloke a break. He has won more than most of us will ever see at QPR and was at the end of a long successful career.
BBH comments really are quite sad.
Cheers Rio and best of luck for future stuff on the BBC. :emoticon-0148-yes:
