OK, we could have shipped out a bit more dead wood, (Gardner, just go on holiday somewhere and don't come back) but we got some quality in with Alonso, Bridcutt and Scocco, plus a couple of others that may or may not add to the squad. Alonso has proven that he's worth his boots imo, Bridcutt is ready for the step-up according to Gus and why would anyone judge otherwise? ...finally, Scocco may be the next Suarez, he may not, but he couldn't be any worse than our 'current' flops. Cattermole stays and we are not selling him to that loathesome bunch of thugs at Stoke. I rate him much higher than some of the other mugs we've offloaded them and I'm delighted he's staying, even 5 million for a defensive midfielder of his quality is a steal ...in the opinion of yours truly. I haven't read into the hold-up or snags with the transfer and quite honestly I don't care - The Enforcer is staying. Well done Gus, landing our targets and holding onto our assets - by getting to a cup final, and lifting us out of the relegation zone, replacing gloom and defeatism with optimism and aspiration. Well done to Ellis too, as we didn't need to ship out the likes of Catts, Bardsley or Fletcher to pay our way for the incomers. Personally, I'm far more upbeat about the remainder of the season than I was this time yesterday
Excellent imo ............. summed up our season, so far, without knee-jerking, bed-wetting, doom-mongering or any other hyphenated extremism. We're slowly inching our way out of trouble but there'll be setbacks along the way. We were bottom for a reason and Poyet will need no small amount of skill to eradicate the mess left by the last 3 managers.
Aye, well said mate, very well said and I echo that. We have a very good team in place right now, not just on the pitch but behind the scenes. Ellis seems to have the confidence in Gus's ability enough to back him, Gus himself just seems to get better and better each time we see and hear him, the players are responding to his new methods and style and actually seem to be enjoying their football now. We've made some pretty decent signings IMO and Bridcutt could turn out to be right bargain at £2.5m, well done Gus & Ellis. Scocco seems to have all the attributes to be a success if we can fit him into the system and Alonso looks like he could be a class act as well. My only concern and it's always concerned me, is that we have a good squad right now, but we have a lot of loan players who we really need to tie down to long term deals. Ki, Alonso, Borini, we have to secure their services for next season otherwise it will cost Ellis a lot of money for replacements. Come on lads, 3 points today to repay the owner for his faith.
