the council hired a planning inspector which cost the tax payer £35,000. that planning inspector advised the council to make the land a town green.

the council didnt do this. as a result it cost the tax payer a further.....

£28,658 that the council spent on legal advice from several lawyers over the case......
£58,196 for litigation with the lawyers for the residents opposing the stadium......
£57,000 mediation costs between the two parties.

there are also other costs as well that hasnt been included in the report and the total comes to more than £234,000 to date.

the council in their wisdom have asked for it to start again and get another planning inspector in to decide if the land should be town green or a stadium which will cost a further £35,000 to the tax payer. wouldnt it be cheaper for us all if they just re-use the 1st report from the planning inspector instead of the council wasting more money???

if the council accepted the original recommendation from the planning inspector in the 1st place, you know, the person they hired to help the council make the decision, then cost would have been just £35,000 to the tax payer. not over £234,000 and set to rise.

ps, this is nothing against city/city fans. seriously good luck with your stadium <ok>
its just a rant about the council ****ing about with tax payers money and set to continue to do so.

    very true shiny <ok>

again im not trying to wind you guys up on this thread but the council hired the planning inspector to help the council to make a decision. that person recommended town green. council went against this so what was the point in the inspection wasting £35,000 if the council was going to go against the recommendation anyway?? the council messed up here and as a result wasted nearly a quarter of a million. they gave up the fight knowing they were wasting tax payers money. yet they are set to do it all over again <doh>

I understand that this shambles has been largely due to the fact that the Council agreed that part of the site should be conceded as Village Green.

Having been involved with the planners on a couple of planning projects, there always seems to be at least one plonker who needs to make sure he/she justifies the need for his/her job by raising some sort of objection by requiring/demanding alterations!!

City are getting the treatment from BCC now, that the Rovers have been faced with over many years.

There are too many people who are full of their own importance.

I wouldn't mind betting that if the World Cup bid had been on track the stadium would have been halfway up by now!

Good Luck Reds. Get it up!!!

    rant over.......

Just out of interest how much did the land cost that Lansdown already paid for? Because if it cost say a million for the land aint they still 750k up?

I know that in the end if it don't go ahead SL will probably sue them for the money back but until that happens the council are quids in.

Could be wrong but just a thought <ok>

There's no case for suing the council for a loss made on the land. It would be illegal for the council to have guaranteed planning permission prior to the sell.

If the village green status is unheld then SL could aways become a farmer or even sponsor a cricket team to play on his quaint village green. :)

At a time when the council are cutting social services it seems a folly to even consider spending more money what happens if the next PO report comes to same conclusion will they then continue until someone says yes?

City should either redevelop Ashton Gate (not really feasible)or look for another site similar to Rovers, maybe larger as they are in the championship and wish to gain promo to the prem.

    What a mess

To be fair the site doesn't need to be bigger as the ground could hold 40,000 of us if we did ever get to the prem, it just needs to be given a yes or a no, not all this fart assing about
