http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/cardiff-city-boss-malky-mackay-2990093 "The Cardiff manager says he is full of admiration for the way the Swans have stabilised themselves amongst football’s elite and have even gone on to in the League Cup". "Asked whether Swansea were an inspiration to his team, Mackay replied: “No, not particularly." "For them to get to the Premier League and do what they’ve done is fantastic but we’ve got our own story." Good comments by Malky. It makes me more confident he would like at least another year with us. [/FONT]
Everyone can see that it Leeds, FC Wimbledon and Portsmouth that has inspired Cardiff, don't know why the reporter even bothered asking the question. The irony is that whilst Cardiff copies Portsmouth's unsuccessful experiment, Portsmouth themselves are now going to try to emulate Swansea.
VD im sorry but 2 go the Swansea way like pompy has,u first need 2 go bust..........that at the moment is a long way away from our club................so yep we shall buy our club back in the long run........on the cheap ps malky is right ..........Swansea had a play off win.......but Cardiff are CHAMPIONS.........AND SO THE STORY CONTINUES.
QPR were champions, Swansea are saying bye bye to them this season. QPR also spent the £25M in the first season like Tan has promised, don't take the fact your owner pretends to have cash as guaranteed success. From a business point of view, Cardiff is seriously lacking at the moment and your club is very far from being safe in the financial department. The new FFP rules for the Premier League start next season and that means Cardiff are not allowed to increase the club's entire salary bill by more than £4,000,000 for the entire season, that means Cardiff is restricted to only increase it's weekly salary bill to the tune of about £76,000. Now considering all those players with you this season will expect a pay rise, such a restriction could be a blessing in disguise because Cardiff simply do not have the allowance to add to their squad. The core will have to remain and with that your club might just survive the first season, but if Cardiff go over the £4,000,000 limit imposed on clubs in debt then it is a points deduction. You knew already that being Champions of the Championship is not guarantee of prosperity and you probably knew of the Premier League FFP rules as you do tend to frequent our board and it was one of the most active threads last week. We can only wait and see what happens, I personally hope that Cardiff doesn't go down the QPR route and overhaul the squad.
Funny how anybody could misinterpret MMs words. After stating that he admired what the Swans have done, he points out that he will do it his way and we won't be copying anyone. Not sure why VD has an issue with that? And those figures you made up for the FFP were great.....you little Cardiff finance authority you!
I don't know why the Swansea fans keep going on about QPR spending £25 million in their first season. They survived in their first season, so it worked! That, plus the fact that QPR paid way too much for most of the players just because they were players Sparky has managed in the past and all he ever does at any club is sign players he's worked with before. Malky is a better manager than Sparky on and off the field. EDIT: Doesn't the £4million wage FFP rule only kick in for clubs already spending over £52 million on wages?
dead..yes it does..£52 million on wages, I don't think Mr. Tan will go that far. VD has never been one for facts
What makes you think I made it up? I even provided the link to where it is reported in the original thread about the subject, and it wasn't a link to a Red Top paper. you are welcome to go and read it yourself if you want to. Trying to make somebody look bad just because it impacts you negatively is a bad way to about making yourself feel better. The understanding is that the rule doesn't apply to those clubs which are in profit. However, speaking about the £52m you point out, the Swans wage bill is over £40m and we had a much, much smaller wage bill than your club when we were in the Championship and you still have players expecting to make your wage bill significantly higher come August.
It won't be over £ 52 million! Our current wage bill is around £ 15 million. The restriction also only applies to revenue from TV money. If clubs boost their income through extra sponsorship deals or matchday income, they can spend that on wages too. Also, spending on the academy, facilities, and the stadium can all be used to offset losses to avoid the FFP restrictions. Really, you will have to work pretty hard to get in trouble!
Apparently there are only 7 clubs who have wage bills exceeding £52 million, and none of them will be hit by the FFP anyway because of the other points just made by siam.
It would appear that you guys are right, I am not one who is too proud to admit when I am wrong, however the 7 clubs are under the ceiling... not above it, meaning the rule applies to 13 of the clubs in the division provided none of those are in the relegation spots. Now... what about UEFA's FFP? That is supposedly more strict but I am unsure how it applies to wage restrictions, or if even applies at all.
VD...now not sure? So maybe better not to spout first off? Your earlier points about similarities with Pompey et al are also somewhat off target. Our benefactor has significant funds and has , so far, spent them wisely. Leeds spent like clowns on leased players and Pompey seems to be some sort of property deal. obviously, for us, the next months will tell us which way we are going with the promised debt/equity swap and the sorting of Stan the man. But, then, we shall still have some debt but the assets to back it up. Swansea, on the other hand, have no assets to back any debt.......something that is essential as you might have learned if you had studied, in any way at all, your two administration episodes.
It is nice to have others worried about us but really we are fine, everything has worked out just perfect for us. We have seen other clubs falling apart all around us but we seem to get stronger and stronger. Basically we planned for promotion sooner so we are geared for the premiership. We could fill the Millennium stadium with our fans if we played there, very few clubs in the premiership has anything like that kind of fan base. Man Utd. merchandise to China while Cardiff has its brand in Malaysia. We are not worried at all. jck
I thought his total funds including assets was around £800M, so that is less than 10% of the debt held by Cardiff City FC. Those funds will also be needed if his other businesses need it. And I am fully aware of our past, I don't need you to tell me about that, you may need to notice that we are no longer in that situation. Don't think that Tan will devote all his resources to the Cardiff, he won't. His other businesses are his priority because they are the big money maker for him, the club is a distant second. Swansea will have the Youth Academy, Training facilities (only the pitches are leased) and will be taking a far more significant stake of ownership on the stadium as has already been reported. It is gathering it's assets and keeping cash in the bank, that is smart business. I mean, fvck me, I knew Rhondda was backwards but I atleast expected you to take time away from Nazi salutes to read the news about Wales' biggest and most popular club.
How is £800m less than 10% of Cardiff's debt? Of course you are no longer in 'that situation' because you ran away from your debts. What colour is the sky in your planet?
