He looks more humble now. Well AVB I'm Spurs and I want what's best for the club and the responsibility rests with you now so good luck. I am one of those who didn't agree with your appointment BUT if you are out for Spurs and not for yourself then I'll damned well back you all the way.

It's not a bad a job is it! You will inherit a strong squad full of cultured players including some very exciting young talents. From your point of view it is handy that they have not peaked yet, there is still a way to go before they reach their plateau.

Spurs are a wealthy club so you should be able to bring in some new talent to mould the team in your image. There is a new stadium on the way, so if you stick around it will only get better.

Lucky man! Play your cards right and history is there to be made. We have been waiting for a very long time for the right manager to come along so just take a little time out to acquaint yourself with the history.

A few suggestions:

We don't want to hear how great you are, we can judge that for ourselves.

Please take the league seriously but don't forget our tradition as a cup winning side, both please.

Don't go down the road of boring football to get results, you will become very unpopular quite quickly with that strategy.

Please choose you words carefully when speaking to the media and remember who is paying your bills.

Note the club motto, it is taken very seriously.

Last but not least a few words from our very greatest manager which you may find helpful:

"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."

AVB interview in which he backed my ambition of taking the Europa seriously :

Andre Villas-Boas insists he is a very different manager to the cocksure one that rocked up at Chelsea 12 months ago.

And he plans to learn from mistakes he made in his short spell as Blues boss by turning Tottenham into genuine title contenders.

AVB met the media as Spurs boss for the first time yesterday at the club&#8217;s new £30million training ground.

And while he was not so vain any more after being scarred in his battle at Stamford Bridge, he showed he was no less ambitious.

Previous Spurs boss Harry Redknapp claimed he had left a squad capable of winning the title &#8212; despite them finishing fourth last season.

But AVB was only too happy to pick up the gauntlet laid down by his predecessor to raise Lilywhite spirits everywhere. He said: &#8220;It&#8217;s a proposition I put to the players on the first day we met. We have to see, of course, whether it&#8217;s realistic or not.

&#8220;Other squads are evolving and you can&#8217;t always compete with Chelsea and Manchester City for players.

&#8220;But we would like to assume this responsibility, not to put more pressure on ourselves, but because it goes along with what we are trying to build at this club.

&#8220;We are trying to put together a squad that makes us compete for the title.&#8221;

And it is not just the league either.

Thursday nights on Channel 5 could get a whole lot more exciting as AVB announced a four-pronged assault on silverware this season.

He added: &#8220;One important thing is that we&#8217;d like to compete in the four competitions, particularly in the Europa League.

&#8220;It is the first European competition I won. Hopefully, I can get some more. It&#8217;s a competition that has so much history in this club, too.

&#8220;So we would like to extend our competition for titles to all of these competitions.

&#8220;If we are able to do that it means that we are taking the right steps towards what chairman Daniel Levy wants for the future.&#8221;

Those comments are bound to lead to sniggering down the King&#8217;s Road following his tenure at Chelsea. AVB arrived at Stamford Bridge as &#8216;The Great Blue Hope&#8217; last summer &#8212; and left as a laughing stock just 256 days later after he was axed with his reputation and coaching capabilities in tatters.

But the Portuguese rookie &#8212; hired by Chelsea after guiding Porto to their domestic double and the Europa League &#8212; arrives in north London with a new outlook.

He said: &#8220;Professionally, you learn different things from your day-to-day life in management.

&#8220;For me I am always a person who defends certain principles that were never understood in England and that requires much more adaptability from myself.

&#8220;I am a person who always puts the team in front, and I do it publicly.

&#8220;I&#8217;m not a guy who is able to criticise anyone in public.

&#8220;I am also not a guy who promotes individuals in public, but I understand now that certain things can be done better.

&#8220;In the end you evolve in different ways. Hopefully, I can apply the different things I have learnt properly.&#8221;

AVB insisted: &#8220;What we want is that winning mentality. We want to build it by trying to win trophies.

&#8220;The fact that most of the players haven&#8217;t won the title in the past can help you get everyone in the right frame of mind.&#8221;
 
This is what I said when you joined us AVB, so it's no good blaming the fans if they're quiet.
