Di Canio gets his man Published: 08 July, 2013 by Kate Smith Altidore becomes Sunderland's sixth summer signing. Sunderland AFC have confirmed the signing of US striker Jozy Altidore from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar. The 23-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Black Cats, for an undisclosed fee. Altidore began his career at New York Red Bulls, before heading to Spain with Villarreal, where he went on to enjoy loan spells at Xerez, Hull City and Bursaspor. He joined AZ in 2011, scoring 38 goals in 67 appearances. He has also scored 17 goals in 60 appearances for the US national team. The striker is set to join up with Head Coach Paolo Di Canio and his new team mates at their training camp in Italy on Tuesday.
