Weekends game could be off

EFL STATEMENT:

As a mark of respect, following the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen Elizabeth II earlier today, the EFL has confirmed that its fixtures scheduled for tomorrow evening (Friday 9 September) – Burnley v Norwich City and Tranmere Rovers v Stockport County - have been postponed.

A determination regarding the remainder of this weekend’s scheduled fixtures will be made following a review of the official mourning guidance, in addition to further consultation with DCMS and other sports on Friday morning.

As the Queen has passed, the EFL have decided to postpone tomorrows (Friday) games and will make a decision tomorrow morning on the rest of the weekends fixtures to postpone or not. Fixtures could actually be postponed for 10 days.

I understand its important to pay respect to the Queen. But postponing games achieves what exactly? Surely everyone (thousands in football stadiums around the country) singing the national anthem followed by a 2 minute silence and players wearing black armbands, would be a good way to show respect. Surely that's better than people losing money on hotels, transports and matchday tickets because the EFL postpones all the games. I've seen people on twitter say they are travelling from Spain tomorrow to watch their team play and they've paid for flights and hotel and matchday tickets can't get refunds (apart from the matchday tickets) and will therefore lose hundreds as more than 1 person going in their party.

If they have postponed tomorrow's games, they will do the same for the weekend and mourning a monarch is usually 10 days. So could potentially could be no football for 10 days. However long the shut football down for, I bet they don't shut down shops, supermarkets, pubs, bars, restaurants, trains, buses, airports, golf courses and everything else. So why can they stay open and not pay their respects? Just makes no sense. Life goes on. We can still pay our respects and still play football.
