The EFL, EPL, FA are all useless yet in charge of our national game at all levels. The EPL have messed up so many times and wasted millions upon millions fighting legal cases against Man City, Chelsea, Newcastle etc and now face another case against Lucas Paquetta who they accused of gambling issues and banned him from playing. It then comes out that he has no case to answer yet his name was trashed and even back home in Brazil his family have taken lots of stick. This one may be another costly exercise from the incompetent fools who gave us FFFP rules and made things worse by revising that into PSR which now gives us an EPL with no relegation for 17 established clubs. Lets not forget Leicester City a club who cheated big time but were allowed to get promotion (in place of Leeds) because they used a different accounting period. The EPL said they couldn’t do anything as they were in the Championship and the EFL said they couldn’t do anything unless they get relegated, still no action. The EPL will give them a points deduction if promoted again. What a farce, sheer comedy gold. Then this week the EPL and Man City agree to make a statement saying we all agree to stop the action on pricing of sponsorship contracts…… in other words EPL fooked and City win again. RPT rules and now APT 2 rules. Meaning related party rules and associated party rules 2 as Man City won on APT1 and now done it again. All clubs will now be able to inflate sponsorship deals unless they look really silly. FA now charging Chelsea with another 74 charges… There are now 10 premier league clubs owned by USA companies, with another 4 having significant US investors. There are also 23 of the 72 EFL clubs that are owned by US companies, and some of these are significant like Ipswich, Birmingham, Wrexham etc that plan on being in the EPL shortly. American owners have no trouble telling everyone what they plan and the main 2 priorities are 1) No relegation. 2) TV Rights reform a) Premier League TV as F1 did it selling broadcast rights but using the F1 platform, cameras cameramen etc and broadcasters paying for the whole thing or in bite size chunks . Always remember an interview Radrizanni gave a few years ago when he caused a rumpus over the pre season tour to Myanmar. He said why pay Sky £10 per game plus a £50 subscription (Radz owned a sports broadcast company and tv rights to all prem games in Eastern Europe at the time) I could charge £1 and make a bomb, much much more than we get from Sky. What he was saying is that Leeds have a worldwide fan base, especially in the Far East and Australasia and he said Leeds matches are viewed by countless millions every game, indeed all EPL matches are watched by 23 Billion people…… Even EUFA think Leeds Utd are the 16th most important club in regard of European viewing data. Continued Global Viewership and Support “Leeds United’s ability to attract global viewers is also tied to the size and fervour of their supporter base. The atmosphere at Elland Road, especially when televised, remains a major draw. The volume, tradition of singing, and coordinated visual displays evoke a sense of significance and continuity rarely matched within football” So although £1 per game may be wishful thinking you can see why LUTV could be a great investment, especially whenever one of our matches are broadcast live from our own platform and even in the EFL Leeds broke viewing figure records at home with north of 600,000 but in the EPL Leeds we’re breaking over 1.5m when last in the EPL and worldwide just shy of 15 million, in simplistic terms if you have 15 million people wanting to pay say £5 per game = £75m per game.
Aye. Football is not a level playing field. Certainly at the top level. Its about time they knocked all this financial unfair play on the head and just let things go. The TV money should be shared out much more equally down the leagues and in to grassroots. I'd stand by that even if we became a PL powerhouse. Cap the PL money to 80 million a club and the left overs should be shared equally on the EFL clubs to try and bring them up to a better standard, therefore creating more opportunities for players to make a good career, step in to coaching etc etc. At the moment a group of 10 or 15 clubs are holding the entire game to ransom. We will try to do the same. Meanwhile there are less grassroots clubs than there have ever been. It might take a while but it will be hugely detrimental to the game in this country.
On a brighter note, I got tickets for Bournemouth at home in the ballot. They are an example of a club that sell less tickets, less shirts, less merchandise, less sponsorship yet they are still allowed to spend more than us. They also cheated to get up (twice) and suffered no punishment.
Great reply and I agree, however the EPL is now the most cash earning league anywhere in the world. The other top European leagues cannot compete and a reason why many of the worlds best players want to come here. Wages are much higher here than anywhere except a few top top players at top top clubs. There is no way to wean prem clubs off the riches and the whole ethos of the EPL is raise higher revenues for the exclusive clubs in their exclusive membership club.
