Having backed and being impressed by KINGLAMI (follow Brian Gubby over a cliff atm) last night, I am very keen on the chances of his Ascot conqueror BROCKLEBANK 10-1 Brighton 3.50 tomorrow. BROCKLEBANK fluffed the start, met trouble in running, hung and yet still managed to get up close home with a gutsy performance. I wish he had some course form at this quirky track but still think he is worth a dabble with so many in the race looking handicapped out of it!
Kempton 19.00 No prices but if the odds are generous enough for an ew bet I quite like Crown Pleasure, nearest at finish over 6f at Newmarket in a better race than this.
Pont 14.30 Can't decide between Tancred and New Bidder. Both should be decent odds. Form with G2 horses Astaire and Jallota looks to be working out quite well.
I do like the look of brocklebank stick and 10s is good the lack of 8 furlong on turf bothers me slightly and the weight , It is a tight race I am edging towards lunar deity myself
I have a couple of fancies for tomorrow and both at decent early prices so may be worth taking. Kempton 8.30 Dark Emerald 12-1 EW This horse was taken out of a race I fancied him for a week or two ago, basically this is a decent enough horse who has been tried in better grade races than today, he's last 3 runs have been in grade 3s whilst the last time he won was four runs ago in a grade 4 from a mark of 85, today he runs in a grade 4 once again off of 84. He also has the superb Richard Hughes on board which can only aid his chance. Most much higher in the betting are yet to win at grade 4 (African Oil the only one) yet our lad has and so should not in my book be the outsider of the group. It's a shame we cannot have another runner to provide greater incentive to go each-way but even with seven runners it may still be prudent at 12-1. Kempton 7.30 Jazz Master 5-1 This horse was a decent enough second last time out to very well fancied and heavily punted Noseda hot pot, the extra furlong will help today and he ran in a Newmarket Maiden 3 outings ago won by Great hall where by the four horses in front of him all won next time out and now race off significantly higher marks than Jazz Master is being asked to today. He was eased and allowed to come home in his own time in that race once the winning group had gone on but he raced well with them right up to the furlong pole. There are some other unexposed types in this field but for me Jazz Master is worth a bet at 5-1.
BPG at Newcastle today place expected if the ground comes good then maybe more, those who have my number I will text an update feel free to pass it on stay frosty
15.20 Brighton- Mariet- 12/1 - EW Had a tip about him- 1st time from the source but they are expecting a big run so def worth an e/w shot! And after this tip I will determine whether to follow or post them next time lol GL to all who play
Morning, troops. Hope everyone well. Nothing for me today as the racing is on the terrible side of terrible. Fret not though, regular readers, as I’ve a ‘live ‘un’ lined up for tomorrow and then on Saturday it’s time to hit those bookie chappies hard, and I do mean hard, as my old fave Telescope makes his belated step up to Group company at Haydock Park. Top lot at yesterday’s DBS NH sale was Rally bought by Highflyer on behalf of Dai Walters, the 11th richest man in Wales. The winner of a bumper at Roscommon, last month, will now go into training with Mr Henderson, the forum’s favourite trainer, and potentially could be top notch. Let’s hope he’s got the engine and the drive to be a star of the future. Question of the day must be though are we all looking forward to the nonsense that is the Shergar Cup at the weekend?!? At least with the inclusion of ‘King’ Kieren and, possibly, Mr Henderson, the event might scrape back a modicum of respectability this time around. Good luck, one. Good luck, all.
I was browsing the Alan King website yesterday and here some interesting snippets: Invictus is removed from the "Horses Resting" list and is on the "Horses In Training 2013" list - lets hope he can prove his Reynoldstown Chase win from Bobs Worth was no fluke. Sir Barney's chum old boy Ponsonby has added 2 horses to the yard: Henry Ponsonby has confirmed that his smart Flat-racers Tiger Cliff and First Mohican will join Alan in the autumn for a dual-purpose career. He said: "Lady Cecil is pleased with both - Tiger Cliff, who ran a corker in the Ascot Stakes, will hopefully go one better in the Ebor Handicap at York, while we are looking at a race at Deauville next month for First Mohican. They are two good horses, and they should do well for Alan this winter." And finally, news of the yard's next "talking horse" for the Triumph Hurdle, Duroble Man: Meanwhile, we look forward to the arrival of an exciting new recruit, Duroble Man, who was bought for us by bloodstock agent Anthony Bromley for 130,000gns at the opening session of Newmarket July Sales on Wednesday. Duroble Man, a three-year-old Manduro gelding, was purchased out of Roger Varian's yard, and Bromley, visibly excited, said:"He was one of the most outstanding prospects for jumping in the catalogue, and we have bought him for Max McNeill, who owns Grumeti. Max has done well with his juvenile hurdlers, and let's hope this is another success-story. It's a lot of money. but it won't look so much if he wins the Triumph Hurdle!"
Interesting stuff, Oddy. I did post about Durable Man, last month, when he arrived in the county amid much razzamatazz. Has the potential to be top notch and is the current 25/1 Favourite for the 2014 Triumph. I am a bit mystified though why Mr Ponsonby is so keen to transfer Tiger Cliff to hurdles. To my eye he still has plenty of miles left in him on the level and wouldn’t be my idea of a typical NH animal. Is going to need 20 furlongs+ over hurdles and these days flat types are often left well behind by the more durable NH bred stock over such extreme distances over timber. Lovely article in ‘The Weekender’ today paying tribute to Mr Henderson for his training skills and modesty re last week’s ‘Glorious’ Goodwood winner, Forgotten Voice. Recommended reading, pilgrims.
18.00 Kempton- Standpoint - 6/1 Back from a 30 day break- won 3 races in a row back in june but was raced to heavily having 4 races in a spaces of 15 days so looked like it all caught up with him. Talented horse and goes well fresh and at this price is worth a small stake on him
ABBEY VILLAGE in the next at Pontefract looks interesting, particularly as he is a half brother to WOOTTON BASSETT. He cost 80,000gns at the yearling sales last year, making him the 5th most expensive yearling by his sire sold at auction last year. Currently 8/1 and could be worth an each way.
Interesting Uncle - backed Lunar deity myself this morning. 4 places with Bet 365 which was handy. Good luck!
