4:10 Something Lucky - down to 70 in handicap and showed enough last time to suggest an improvement in form is around the corner. 3:55 Keel Haul - lower Hurdle mark and I don't like those to the fore in the handicap. Been running in hot chases and now a relatively poor Hurdle.
A Frankel runner to note at Newcastle in the 1.35pm today - TOUCH OF PARADISE. Out of Oaks winner Ramruma she is owned (and was bred) by the Coolmore partners and trained by Richard Fahey.
Seems amazing that a Coolmore-owned Frankel filly out of an Oaks winner makes her debut on Tapeta at Newcastle in January. Have they possibly had problems with her so didn't get her out as a 2YO or is she simply a late developer?
Honestly I don't know. She's always been with Fahey so she hasn't been transferred out of another yard. I'm guessing there must have been an issue at some stage. If she was a true late bloomer I'd have thought they'd wait for the turf season proper for her, so unless they have specific plans for her that require getting a run in now (she doesn't hold any fancy entries) I don't know why they are running her now. The other possibility is that she has suddenly blossomed at a faster than anticipated rate and needs a run to keep her mind fresh - the Frankel's have all looked like thinkers so far so perhaps a change of scenery is needed? Interestingly she is bred on similar lines to two other Frankel winners - ATTY PERSSE and SENATOR. All three are out of Sharpen Up line mares (Atty Persse's dam Dorcas Lane is a great-great-grand daughter of Sharpen Up through his son Diesis; Senator's dam Red Bloom is a grand-daughter of Sharpen Up being by his son Selkirk and Ramruma is also a grand-daughter of Sharpen Up, being by his son Diesis).
BALLY GILBERT 2.55 Hereford 10/1 Apparently quite well thought of and this looks easier than the last assignment.
I see Kim Bailey has held back from running charbel , he says that the horse seems a bit quiet and that ' one or two of mine haven't been running as well as we'd hoped' -- ever the understatement -- they been running like drains for the most part , but isn't that how some stables cycles go ? they all have different peaks and troughs ,unless a sickness has hit the yard ...........
A rare mid week sand rat wager for me but I do think Rebel Lightening has a chance off top weight in 6.15 at Wolvy.Has gone very close in last two runs and the booking of Kirby should hopefully kick him home.3/1 win.
Missed the race as I was on lunch but the write up read like TOUCH OF PARADISE made a promising debut in 3rd.
Come on Princess, you can't mention lunch on the Daily Thread without telling us what you had and marks out of 10. Baked potato with pulled pork and sour cream - 9/10
Homemade butternut squash soup, some roasted root veg (last night's leftovers) and a slice of carrot cake 8/10
Well fuk me pink Oor Jock has finally won a race.Thought id never see the day!It was a class six donkey fest at Wolvy but I'm sure the owners will be chuffed!
