I like to have the odd wager on the NBA if there's decent value on a badly formed market and i think there is one tonight.

The Knicks travel to Miami to play the Heat this evening and the Heat are playing without their two best players in Wade and Lebron James. A third starter, Mario Chalmers, sits out as well. The Knicks arrive with a long winning streak and a healthy team and given that they have a winning record against the Heat this season and given that the playoffs are just around the corner we will probably see a playoff type atmosphere tonight and if that's the case the superior talents in the Knicks team gives them a genuine opportunity to beat the Heat. At the prices on offer, 13/10 for the Knicks to win and 10/11 for the Heat, with a scenario where there are no draws, the Knicks are a stand out bet for me.

If they lose then so be it, the Heat are the Manchester United of the sport after all, but there's a big chance tonight that they'll not pull this one out.

Having looked at the horses the only one that appeals is the King horse in the opener at Wetherby but it's 2/1 ish already and i'm not sure it's worth bothering with with decent fayre just a day away. Good luck ROTO with your horse.

Are Wade and Lebron injured, or are they just resting them as theyve already made the playoffs?

I do like a punt on the NBA from time to time, but only when it's on the tele. I don't think it's on tonight, unfortunately

    ESPN around 1am.

Both injured. They'd probably have played if it mattered but they've secured the one seed

So selfish of those Americans to have it on so late, couldn't they have had it at 10, to fit in nicely after the Champions League

THE PANAMA KID 10-1 4.10 Wetherby is off a mark now some 18lbs lower than he has won off in the past. He has perfect ground conditions tomorrow and it is interesting to see Danny Cook getting the leg up. Everything is in his favour and if he flops tomorrow I think there will be some serious head scratching! Money is coming for him so I cant see the tens being around for too long!

I looked into this one and found this quote which put me off from Jefferson after his last run "We will have a think but if he can not pick up a race in summer, he will be retired." Tomorrow's bit from the website is "The Panama Kid has under performed all season but is down the handicap as a result and on a nice mark. The better ground may bring about some improvement and dropping back to 2m 6f is a positive. However, overall, it is hard to be confident."

I completely get the logic but that was enough to put me off. Good luck though Stick

Taking a punt on Lightening rod 6/1 in the 3.40 at wetherby. Not been seen since December and the going is finally good enough for him. Has won off fresh in the past and theres is a little bit of money for him. 1 of only 2 course a distance winners in the race so worth a shot. Its a bet365 feature race for anyone interested so if it wins youll get a free bet for the next race.

Wetherby 15.40 Cool Baranca. As I'm on "holiday" (although I think I've just committed to build a system for a smallish company) I might have a small wager on this one in an attempt to play the National with the winnings. <doh>

Southwell 15.50 At first I fancied Clubland for this but having looked at his last run, CD winner from another runner in this race M J Woodward, I have changed my mind. In that race Clubland got a good start but the jockey had to resort to the whip to fend off a decent finish by MJW, who addmittedly got a decent start also. Clubland did cross over the track so clearly travelled a bit further but MJW seemed to be going on strongly and wasn't pushed too hard yet still gained slightly. On the same terms I suspect Clubland would come out on top again but MJW is 7lb better off tomorrow and, in addition, has a claimer on board making the difference 12lb. The jockey has a 23% strike rate at the course, showing a £15 LSP which does little to put me off. MJW is also a CD winner. The one negative I have is that he has ridden 4 times for this trainer and not won a penny.

At 11/2 he looks a cert for the frame and to me is better value than the best priced 9/4 for Clubland.

    5.05 Downpatrick

    Mister Philson 16/1

Although quite a difficult looking contest on paper, I fancy Stuart Crawford's Mister Philson to run a big race and hopefully he can land this pretty valuable contest for his Northern Irish based trainer. Although lightly raced under Rules with only 8 starts (7 in Hunter Chases), this 8 year old is an experienced and successful Point To Pointer with 7 wins and 9 places from 23 starts in that sphere. On his last start, Mister Philson made his handicap debut over fences last month in Heavy ground at Carlisle off a mark of 107 when running out a very promising 4.5L beaten 2nd. Leading for much of the contest, Mister Philson was headed by the eventual winner Dusky Bob at 4 out but he battled on very gamely and was only just behind jumping the final flight and although that rival went clear late on Mister Philson was still saying on strongly. Although the form of that race has yet to be tested, Dusky Bob was well supported by the shrewd Brian Ellison outfit and looks to be on the upgrade whilst the 3rd Markadam loves it at Carlisle to solidify the form. It was a fine effort by Mister Philson on his handicap debut and he certainly looked open to further progression. In tomorrow's contest, Mister Philson actually gets to race off a 5lb lower mark than his excellent 2nd of 102 given that he is back in Ireland and that certainly makes him look like a horse who is handicapped to be very competitive. Additionally, I think he'll relish the step up to 3m4f (a distance he won a Point To Point over) and he should improve again as he is clearly a stout stayer. Although this is a tough contest, Mister Philson gets to carry a lovely racing weight of 9-12 and given that the first two home in this race last year (although it was a much easier contest) carried less than 10 stone and a low weight over this sort of trip is always a huge advantage. I'm delighted to see Davy Condon, who is riding brilliantly at the moment, take the ride as he is one of the best jockeys around to make this sort of weight and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Stuart Crawford had this contest earmarked for quite a while. Another massive, massive bonus for the chances of Mister Philson is that he was placed on both his completed Hunter Chases at the course and his proven ability to handle this very unique course should stand him in great stead. Although a tough looking contest, I think Mister Philson looks a well handicapped horse off 102 and he has a lovely low racing weight to boot. He's more than halved in price since I put him up earlier on to a best showing of 15/2 and hopefully the money is spot on and he lands this good prize for his Larne based trainer.

I hope a few of you were on. It wasn't a particularly great game but Melo went for 50 and shot his first 7 baskets. Lethal.

    Good start to the day.

I was going to put that it was the last chance saloon for him ROTO. Frankly on this seasons form he wouldn't win off 57 let alone 117 but at anything like his best he would hack up here. Trip and particularly ground are the key factors and I like the fsct that he has a new pilot. Just about worth taking a chance on in my view especially as none of the opposition look particularly well in!

    Morning, troops. Hope everyone well.

Nothing for me today but the 3.10 at Wetherby look a curious heat. A 3 runner 25 furlong novice chase which on official marks sees one of the participants (Real Milan) rated some 9 pounds and 19 pounds ahead of his rivals and has throughout the term been spoken of in glowing terms by his connections. However, he’s available at 11/8! Do those bookie chappies know something untoward or are punters underestimating Real Milan big time??? It will be fascinating to discover the answer.

Meanwhile, there is a strong word in the county for Reya Star each-way in tomorrow’s Aintree Hurdle. Cor blimey the local hounds just won’t stop barking right now.

Good luck if you wager today, team.
