I've got the mother of all flu bugs and am signed off sick for the week - typical for there to be no bloody racing. Might be time to get back into Boardwalk Empire, just at the beginning of season 2 so plenty to go at there
So, while The Sick Man of Europe takes another week out at his employer's expense.....those of us made of sterner stuff are making our way - cautiously - to Lingfield via the arctic hell that is East Grinstead's one-way system (see also We Will Fight Them On The Beaches, etc). Reason for posting is to add a little conspiracy-flavouring to Nass's maiden handicap game (3.20 - why does he never put a time to these races he mentions ?) CATAPULT (no.5) has the considerable assistance of Hollie Doyle, but isn't (imo) well drawn in 12. The conspiracy-factor here is that it's Cliff Lines's last ever runner and some people seem to think that he's going to be gifted a sentimental farewell winner. So, if you see Hollie fifteen lengths clear after two furlongs while the other jocks talk quietly among themselves, don't be too surprised. But the theory's already been factored into the early price (about 9-2 as I post), and it's probably a better idea to wait until the on-course market settles down. Some of you will remember Cliff as being Shergar's regular workrider, and I wish him a long and happy retirement; that said, he's never shown any signs of being able to train ivy up a wall, and this isn't a race to wax the wheelbarrow for. Meantime, our hopes and prayers are with Oddy as he sweats and twitches on his bed of pain.

Another game. Guess the attendance at freezing cold Dunstall Park this evening. I'll go for 28 hardy Black Country souls. Home made red pepper and chilli soup for lunch with a couple of decent slabs of granary bread to dip. The missus got a soup maker for xmas (not from me, I'd never hear the last of it if I had!) and what a fine contraption it is. Some fine creations have come from it and only 1 dud which involved kale and resembled a nuclear **** from a newborn. Bon appetit.

You guys are better than me at this stuff, so I was wondering what you think of 17:15 at Wolverhampton? It looks a pretty open race with just the 5 going around. I suppose with the small field and the 16.5f, it'll turn out to be a bit of a grinding affair in the run home. With this in mind, would Chocolate Box's hurdle second over the 21f last up, give him some sort of chance in this race or will they run him off his feet? He's the 9-1 outsider. He has form on the course.
