    Beverly 2.20 Singe Anglais

    - on a winning mark
    - course winner
    - first run after a break last year was a good 6th of 16 in a stronger handicap than today at York so wouldn't worry about the absence today
    - stable usually does well at Beverly and has been amongst the winners last 14 days
    - Faye McManoman knows the horse well

    • Hamilton 4.10 Edgar Allen Poe
    - Course form reads 1341667
    - On a career-low mark now
    - Harvey Bastiman's last runner was 3rd at 12/1 on friday
    - David Allen a positive jockey booking in my opinion ( 23 in the first three from 49 rides for Rebecca Bastiman)

Could run well at a nice each way price

Interesting conversation with Dominic Cummings on Cheltenham going ahead March last year - "we thought abandoning it would make things worse as everyone (going) would have crowded into pubs and bars to watch it. Nobody thought about shutting the pubs at this time"

I'd think most conversations with Cummings would be interesting but depends who he is defending or throwing under a bus.

Pretty moderate fare today. The only race to catch my eye was the maiden fillies race at Wolverhampton. The likely favourite has been pulled out and left Verreaux Eagle as the market leader. She holds claims on her Newmarket 2nd two runs back but was 7th of 12 last time in a performance short of the other run. I think Mejthaam has the right sort of improving profile and it is hoped that she can take another step forward here. The form of Charlie Hills is a bit concerning but that is usually a cue for them to spark into life, although I have little doubt it will probably happen after I have backed them.

At 9/2 the odds were just enough to warrant a play for me.

    6.20 Wolverhampton Mejthaam 9/2

Cummings does realise that they didn’t all come from the same village doesn’t he?

Pretty smooth for Mejthaam there. Broke well, sat second travelling well and then kicked. Never really looked like getting caught. Well backed to half the odds I took. The original fav kept on well for second place and the pair were almost five lengths clear of the rest.

    Happy enough with that.
