The Epsom Spring Meeting of 6 races: As I've said before this used to be a 3 day card with initially 4 biggish races then in the 70s a 5th added. The two biggest were the City and Suburban Handicap, which is the only one that remains in its old form, and the Great Metropolitan Handicap, which is still there but used to be a 2m2f race that started in front of the stands and ran the other way up the straight for the first two furlongs. At one time these were big betting races and many good horses ran in these races. They were like a Spring equivalent of the Autumn Double.
Then there were two classic trials run over 8.5f. The colt's race was the Blue Riband Stakes and the fillies had the Princess Elizabeth Stakes. Plenty of Guineas horses if not that many winners had a shy at these and some trainers liked to start their Epsom classic horses in the races. In the 70s they were joined by the 12f Warren Stakes which was definitely a Derby Trial. From these 3 we now seem to have a Derby Trial run over the C+S Distance. There is still a Princess Elizabeth Stakes but it's run at the Derby meeting.

Things and times change, not always for the better.

    Quite Bustino <ok>

The Derby trial is also usually only contested by horses who are NOT entered in the classic. Always galling after the Derby, having done your dough, you hear the trainer saying "he didn't handle the track" to which you want to reply "Why didn't you run him in the ****ing Derby trial then you twat?"

Windy Millie is out again tomorrow in Fairyhouse at 7:25 Some may remember I put her up here last time up when she duly obliged. She's 6/1 at the minute and again a big run is expected. It's a tougher race so perhaps cover yourself each way if you are of that persuasion.

330 perth uisge beatha currently 10s in a 5 runner affair , granted no1 and 2 are good but uisge has been this distance before in a very good time the return to a right handed track should only help as well. Usual jockey and probably weighted the nicest too .

Hello, everyone. Mr Henderson, Mr Ponsonby and old boy Nico de Boinville take a 2 pronged raiding party up to Perth this afternoon and I must say that I’m quite surprised to see CARACCI APACHE being quoted, right now, at ‘levels’ in the £15,000 Novice Hurdle (3.25). Although the 5YO has to concede weight all round he looks a class apart and should regain winning ways North off the old border. This is a race the forum’s favourite trainer likes to target and he’s won the heat twice in the past 6 years.

Next season Caracci Apache will be going over the big ‘uns and is yet another novice chaser that Mr Henderson should excel with.

    Good luck all.

    Morning fellas

I have a question for you. I am thinking about paying for the Timeform service but I am wondering if any of you guys use it as I want to know if its worth the money?

    I would appreciate any feedback?

On second thoughts, give it a three-month trial, see how you go.

Afternoon troops.nothing on the horsey front for me today.I was tempted to back sister anne in the 2nd at fairyhouse but she's drifted out to 11s now.The one value bet I do see is for both real madrid & juventus to win at 7/2.I dont think this athletico team is as good as the last couple of years and juventus should be to classy for the french tax dodgers

Perth 405 sun cloud was a close 3rd last time here at this distance , sun is slow and steady but the weight and distance won't hinder them . Hughes should go close with sun and the odds look a little on the ew side at 8s

Cannot for the life of me remember putting Christophermarlowe in my tracker. To further confuse myself I didn't add any notes. 2 yold form looks pretty good though.

I suppose at the prices I can let him go unbacked making his debut at the worst gaff track in Europe. If he wins nicely I suppose he'll shorten up for the big one in June and I'll regret not backing him ante post for that. The 25s isn't that tempting though.

Don't know what to do, frankly.

I used to be a big fan of timeform too, but not anymore. I fInd the Corals website far more informative as they show the replays of each horses last 5 races (and all for free) - you just cannot beat the visual information!!

A technical question for anyone who can help please?

If I put a reverse forecast on in shop at Coral and one of them is a non runner what happens if the other one wins? I've done it in the past where there's been a non runner and the other one has done nothing and have lost my money. If the same thing happened online with PP they give me my money back.

I've been told that if there's a non runner then the NR gets replaced by the favourite does anyone know if this is true because my other horse won and favourite came 2nd so I should be getting the forecast if that's the case?

Any knowledge on the matter would be appreciated

    Thanks

Yes - it should go on as a win single!

Happened to me at Ascot once, where I had done a S/F and the horse was withdrawn at the off - I didn't realize and threw my ticket away - As it was a 9/1 winner, I spent 45 minutes searching amongst the discarded tickets till I found mine!!

Sorry for being dense. Do you mean it'll go on the winner as a single bet it will I get the forecast with the favourite?
