Having a look at the Kempton card 16.25. Not a race that inspires a bet so I'll chance the 12/1 shot Estibdaad 16.55. Another stinker. My Best Song 6/1 was 5th on début 8l behind Galileo Gold who turned out to be Group class. Shot in the dark 17.25. Manson should take this based on his close 4th to Beautiful Morning (subsequently 5th beaten 8l in a G1 by Minding) 17.55. The 2 newcomers Amanaat and Soofiah (the former 280,000 Gns yearling) could dominate the betting and maybe best to follow the money. If no confidence shown in either then Broadway Icon 12/1 (5th on début to the exciting Shalaa) or Ground Dove 14/1 might be worth a small interest 18.25. Predilection was econd to King of Rooks on début but the latter was a very easy winner and not convinced there was anything of note behind. That combined with his 187 day absence doesn't seem like a top priced 2/1 shot. So I'll take a chance on 12/1 shot Every Chance 18.55. At a best price 8/1 I have to go for the class horse Gordon Lord Byron in the hope that course and distance is not a problem 19.25. Wakea best priced 4/1 has good course form 19.55. Clowance One 7/2 nicely bred C&D winner will do for me. Phew that was hard work and didn't even study in depth. Hopefully one or two winners there.
Interested in the 6.25 as the horse that was third in Buzz's race is in it. Also in the race is Gregarious who ran well at Newmarket on debut when punted from 66's into single figures! Re Wakea 7.25 Ron I don't think the drop in trip will help.
Ron may not like the look of Kemptons card opener for me but I am having a pretty decent bet whilst wishing also that I had bigger balls to smash this one up some more. Every so often a horse screams at you off the page and for me GAY CAVALIER @ 10/1 does precisely that. Back in February he won at this venue, I remember it vividly as he left Squire toiling in his wake, he appeared again a week later at the track and won again before next time running well behind the useful Tryster. Those two wins were off 74 and 80 but having gone off the boil since he is now down to a very handy 68! He showed something of a return to form when beaten only a length at Chelmsford recently and back to the place he goes best at he has to have a huge chance!
Well, had I known that stick, it would have made it a lot easier. Lack of in depth study on my part. Anything that can leave Squire toiling must be good value at 10/1 in this race. Good luck.
Just read that Champion Court sustained a leg injury at Cheltenham on Friday and has been retired. The Champ was a tad short of the top table but performed with great credit and ran some fine races particular at Cheltenham. He took his chance at the last 5 festivals and always performed with credit although the closest he got to a festival victory was a well beaten runner up in the Jewson. A favourite of mine because he always gave you a run for your money. Happy retirement Champ.
I shall have a lot more interest in those 2 Kempton races now stick. What would you like to see happen in the 6.25? (a) run a cracker to boost the form (b) run down the field and help keep the handicap mark down (that is if you're thinking of handicapping)
When were talking shorties, FREE EAGLE 5/4 in the first at Punchestown. Wins by half the track. Left Nichols Canyon for dead in a piece of work the other day
No in all honesty I would like him to run well and help us get comfortable it was a decent maiden. Wouldn't want him winning by half the track tho! That said we have a slight difference of opinion on how we should proceed with Buzz! I like handicap route, stick wants to win a maiden.
I do love the irony that the chap who has a horse with Charlie L wants to get the handicap mark low (CL being a reasonably honest trying trainer) whilst the one who is/was a big fan of Jim Best wants to win a maiden and not worry too much about the mark!! Tickled me did this. In the race that Sticks selection runs in, the Moore horse is interesting, as it was well supported on its belated return and it ran with some promise that day. They said it was a prep run for going hurdling, so its interesting that they are going to the well with it again on the flat.
