I really don’t like recommending jumpers at this stage of the campaign as in so, so many instances you are only guessing as to there well being as you have no real idea as to whether or not they are ‘over the top’ after a hard season. One horse that comment doesn’t apply to though, after a somewhat truncated, I say truncated, term, is Mr Henderson’s MIGHT BITE who has his 2nd run over timber in the card commencer at Cheltenham tomorrow (2.05). My regular readers will know how much I like this one and that I’ve put him up in both his previous races. First time up everything was going well 2 furlongs from home as the old boy was cruising – in fact the Geraghty boy was, at that point, calculating his win percentage and Mr Henderson was heard order a celebratory large GnT. However, due to the heavy ground and weakness Might Bite floundered from then on and managed only 3rd place at the line. There was no reoccurrence of this last time though, on his hurdling bow, as Might Bite put upwards of 15 lengths between him and his rival at Newbury. Looked Classy with a capital ‘C’ as well to boot. Might Bite’s education continues tomorrow at Cheltenham and under the tutoridge of Professor Mr Henderson expect another win. The great man knows what it takes to win this heat as he won it with the subsequent dual Grade1 victor, Whisper, back in ’13 whilst the trip will hold no fears as Might Bite obliged over similar yardage last time. A couple of worthy opponents, Port Melon and Boru's Brook, both obliged last time but I don’t think either are good enough to trouble Might Bite. Whatever happens tomorrow next season this old boy will be going over fences and I’ll tell you what I don’t think it is totally absurd to mention Might Bite, a half brother to dual Grade 1 winner, Beat That, in the same breath as the 2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more... Good luck to him and you, troops.
Very unlike you to be putting a Henderson horse up Barney. What happened with tipping the forums favourite trainer Mr.Mullins?!?
3.10 ltown-gulf of poets -Dermot Weld is in spanking good form and ive taking a slice of 5/2 available as I reckon he will be much shorter come post time tomorrow
145 Newmarket Akeed Champion 7/4 Ran a second stinker when fancied and I shall be leaving this one alone. I've looked through the race and the only danger I can see is Hakam but with Moore booked i really think this should be odds on. 220 Newmarket Swirral Time 9/2 Took a leap of faith and boy was I wrong lol Trainer won the race last year and I just have a sneaky feeling that he will be aiming one of his better ones at this race and at 9/2 im willing to take the chance. 255 Newmarket Bossy Guest 13/2 Won well and went off 5/1 so did well getting the last night Wide open race with little quality form to go on but Bossy Guest came out best against a few of these last year and im willing to take a chance with him. Warrior is the danger after starting off this season and looking an improved horse. 405 Newmarket Osalia 5/1 Well I thought Frankie had dropped a clanger and got done on the line for a second but 5/1 was a great price and this is a filly to follow in 2015 Will want further and this could be the only time she runs over less than a mile this year but she oozes class and for me that sometime over shadows the distance and I just think she will be one to follow for the season. 440 Newmarket Festive Affair 3/1 NAP Came there and looked to take the rail and Golden Horn shut the door and won well, I wouldn't abandon this one yet as that looked to me like a pipe opener for something bigger Won after making a complete hash of the bend at Lingfield on debut and There arent many that blow it as much as that and still win. He then won with ease at kempton in what was only a pipe opener and with multiple entries i really fancy this one to take this race. 510 Newmarket Next Approach 14/1 Travelled like the winner but experience told and faded to 3rd but still landed the E/W pennies I will be going E/W on this one as Gosden has won the race 3 times and 2 of those times were with newcomers so it's a leap of faith but at 14/1 it could pay to give Next Approach a chance 1st time out. 540 Newmarket Felix Leiter 7/1 Non Runner- Replaced with Salt Island 9/2 Felix had a very good season last year and disappointed on his last start as he had been on the go for a while but he has had the winter off and has been gelded and if anywhere near his form of the early part of last season i think he has a great shout.
The countdown to the first two British Classics begins at Newmarket with an eight race card. Just five go to post for the Free Handicap, many probably having been scared off by the well-regarded 2000 Guineas second favourite Faydhan, facile winner of his only two year old start but subsequently on the easy list. An easy victory for John Gosden’s colt might see him propelled to Guineas favouritism, given that the current favourite will not race before 2nd May. He may be Gosden’s only candidate on Guineas weekend with Richard Pankhurst out. The first fillies’ trial, the Nell Gywn Stakes, sees nine go to post for a wide open renewal. Whilst the form horse is Richard Hannon’s Osaila, she does not have much in hand on some of her opponents such as stablemate Marsh Hawk , Muraaqaba and Terror. There are two once-raced unbeaten fillies in the line-up: Godolphin’s Beautiful Romance easily claimed a mile maiden at Doncaster and drops back in trip here but preference is for Khalid Abdullah’s Lady Correspondent, although her course-and-distance win amounts to little. Last year the Feilden Stakes threw up a potential Derby candidate and seven go to post hoping to impress. The Queen’s Peacock is race-fit from Kempton’s polytrack, as is Godolphin’s Festive Fare, but I think that the Niarchos colt Disegno will benefit from the step up in trip and Sir Michael Stoute will have him fit enough to do the job. Newmarket 15:30 no bet (Faydhan to win) 16:05 Lady Correspondent 16:40 Disegno
Im more of jumps man myself so takes a while for me to get into the flat.weld/stack/bolger are always trainers to follow my side of the pond early doors.granted there is a ****load of english trainers who should we be keeping tabs on early on this season.
Midgley looks to have placed desert law in a nice sprint on a beautiful mark intrestingly lee has been booked . I was hoping for 20s to 25s but 16s will have to do if desert gets a good run from lee they will have to much in the tank for these . They should not be ew prices having blown the cobwebs away 17 days ago.
Hakam 11/4 Newmarket 1:45 - War Front colt who just got held off by a more experienced horse in Ventriloquist in a Lingfield maiden in early March over today's trip, that experience will hopefully have him set for today with Hanagan aboard. I also appear to have missed the price as he opened 4/1 or that but I am happy to take the 11/4! I see there is plenty of money about for Mick Appleby ' s City of Stars in the 2 year old maiden at 2:20. He's 0 for 12 with his 2 year old's over the last year and whilst I won't be backing, I will be keen to see if the money is correct. Ravenhoe looks the one to beat after his Brocklesby success even with his penalty, the form Johnston has his string in. Good luck all.
Tough race to solve that one, i think the bottom two in the market Ancient Cross 20/1 & Silvanus 25/1 look overpriced and that's where my ew money would lie but am still not betting on the old gee gee's during the week so best of luck with yours
Ela Goog Lamou 5 20 Beverley -won first time out last year -trainer and jockey scored last week with big price outsider -will try and make all -can be useful at this track Fossa -8 15 Kempton -back in form, right grade ,trip and draw 7/1
There all tough races smokey , silvanus has a good chance but I have my reasons to put a line through same with ancient but out of them I would go with sil . Ew?
The Nel Gwyn looks very competitive, and of the exposed horses you'd have to say there's very little between them all. That's why I'm siding with Beautiful Romance who has had 1 run in a mile maiden winning by 9 lengths easily. She looked to have plenty of speed that day so I don't think the drop back to 7 furlongs will be a problem. She has a very good pedigree being a daughter of New Approach so il be happy to invest a few quid in her tomorrow. It's strange that Faydhan is going in the free handicap tomorrow, you'd of thought he'd go in the Craven, maybe they are concerned about his stamina over a mile, which doesn't strike me as a positive if you've backed him for the Guineas. His maiden form obviously reads incredibly well but that was a 6 furlong maiden. I don't think there's any doubt he will win tomorrow, but it'll be interesting to see how strongly he sees out the 7 furlongs. It should give us an idea of how he'll go over a mile in the Guineas.
4.40 Newmarket ALGAITH 16/1 Looks like a horse who will enjoy an extra furlong here and was better value for his AW wins that the bare form suggests. He was good at the finish both times and I think can make it 3 from 4 today.
Few bets for me today: Fascinating Rock - Leop Mite Bite - Chelt Faydhan - Newm Win treble on the above Also done a patent on Sir Michale Stoute's 3 at Beverley as he has a great record at the course: 1.55 Kisumu 3.40 Russian Heroine 4.50 Voice Control
Good luck Cityhull. I looked at Voice Control's race and it's pretty competitive given there are so few runners. I just don't trust the animal to put his best foot forward when challenged. Good luck to you and I hope I'm wrong. Shergar don't you think it's the ease of the race rather than the distance that pushes them to the Free Handicap. If it goes for the Craven it has a much tougher assignment at level weights. With his rating being based on his achievements so far rather than his potential he seems well-in for the handicap. Looking at his pedigree he could get 8f but there is plenty of speed in there..
Possibly Bustino, though it's a very unusual route to take to the Guineas. First of all I'm not knocking Faydhan as his maiden form is very good, though if they are choosing the free handicap for the ease of the race, then surely that isn't showing much confidence in the horses ability. Are they worried his colours could be lowered in the Craven? I could be completely wrong, but if you have a horse that you think good enough to win the Guineas you wouldn't be avoiding a trial like the Craven
