According to Sky Sports News today Webster is at Ashton Gate today undergoing a medical pending a £5M move to Bristol City, if true how must Hurst feel seeing his few quality players sold from under him? Evans out!
I'm in two minds about this one. Webster is clearly a technically proficient player, but he is very injury-prone and I think his form is more inconsistent than some supporters believe. £5m would be a good bit of business, but £3.5m (potentially rising to £8m) which is now being reported is a little harder to swallow considering we bought him for £700,000 odd plus trading in Clarke. The money needs to be reinvested and I hope this news isn't followed up by Bart's departure, otherwise we are going to require serious reinforcements.
We've seen tens of millions disappear from transfer profits in the past so I don't expect anything different from Evans this time, he welcomes a new manager and promptly starts selling first choice players days later. Welcome to PR Hurst and Doig this is what happens when you get involved with amateurs.
One last chance Evans, back PH with a good proportion of this fee or the calls for you to go will increase.
I agree that the fee has to be reinvested, otherwise we won't be able to compete. As for Webster, the number appearances for us (because of his injury problems) makes me think we might come out of this deal better off - 25 games out of 46 last season, 23 games out of 46 in the one before.
Since we're a loss making club if half of it goes on transfers that's fine by me. £5m? £3.5m rising to £8m? No-one in our squad is worth that money at this point, especially not Webster. Bite their hand off.
Very disappointing, was a very good CB and now only have 1 senior CB on our books. I'm in 2 minds, shame when a good young player goes but at the same time it could be a decent transfer fee for an injury prone defender. It's not Mings deal though...what a deal that was!!
Christ if Waggy goes we might as well pack up, I thought we were trying to be competitive in this division not preparing for Div1. EVANS OUT!
Quite depressing especially with that youngster going to Man City aswell. If Waghorn goes aswell I feel we need a couple of experienced heads to come in otherwise we'll be a team with relatively little championship experience
Less worried about this... https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/33893/bolton-linked-with-garner-move ....the guy seems to struggle to stay on his feet.
There is not a single player I would lose any sleep over - not even Bart, although I hope he stays. It's a new era. If we're getting good money for our average players we can start to build an exciting squad.
Yes but I thought it was about evolution not revolution and I think alot of our strength has to be improving the personnel we have rather than bringing in a whole new squad
Ben Knight to Man City is a worrying sign of how we will struggle hold on to standout youth talent. We sold another lad, with plenty of potential, to West Ham last summer. Must be frustrating for Klug and the team. Having said that, £1m for a kid who will most likely fail to make the grade (it is how it is at that level) is good business. Garner can be moved on. I don't rate him that highly. He comes across as a typical "Mick player" - hard working and effective, but one-dimensional and not very technically proficient. Waghorn worries me the most, in that he notched double figures in both goals and assists last season and is clearly well-suited in this division. He recently moved his family down here, so hopefully that shows he's committed. He isn't irreplaceable (nobody is), but losing both him and Webster, in the space of a week, sends out the wrong message and leaves us needing to do some inspired, widespread recruitment ahead of the new season.
That's the question isn't it,do we try to hang on to the likes of Waghorn and build the team around him,(with his goals and assists,we are in danger of being overreliant on him)? Or do we trust PH to build a team from scratch, which will entail a big step backwards over the next Season or so.I think people are too impatient these days and if things go a bit tits up they will be baying for blood ( or more likely carping on about being careful what we'd wished for!)
PH hasn't managed at Championship level yet so although letting him build a team he wants sounds like a good idea I don't want to be making sweeping changes too quickly. This league can be a real slog and if he gets rid of too many players with experience and replaces them with lads from lower down the pyramid he could find himself struggling. I would prefer it if he settled into the job for a couple of months, giving him time to assess the squad and the league.
