We will be spending a lot of money this summer.

Usually we always expect Fergie to come out and say he'll make 1 or no signings, and it is rare that he will go on a spending spree. But this summer is different. With uncertainty over what rules UEFA will impose on the Premier league and spending on transfers, it seems as though Gill and Fergie have decided to invest in the future while they still can. It really does make sense, there will be a premium on English talent as there are more rule implications on the number of homegrown players UEFA requires a team to have. This is what I feel the outlook for our summer will be:

    IN:

    Phil Jones - £16.5M
    David De Gea - £18M
    Alexis Sanchez - £27M
    Wesley Sneijder - £35M

    TOTAL: £96.5M

The Ashley Young deal was agreed in principle, but with an oppurtunity to sign Alexis Sanchez (who in my opinion is the next superstar) the deal will not be completed and Sanchez will sign instead. Sneijder and Sanchez will cost a lot of money, but remember, Sanchez is a long term investment and Sneijder is as close as a replacement you are going to get for Scholes. Not that he plays like Scholes, but that his impact on the game is about the same level. De Gea is a need, not a want, so he will sign and Phil Jones is another investment for the future.

    OUT:

Darron Gibson to Sunderland - £5M
Wes Brown to Bolton - £3M
    Bebe to Besiktas - LOAN
Dimitar Berbatov to Bayern Munich - £12M

    TOTAL: £20M

I really don't like Berbatov leaving, he is one of my favourite players. But after he was left out of the Champions league final squad, he will force Fergies hand to move him. Brown and Gibson don't really have a future at United. It is a shame for Brown who has been a good servant to the club, but Gibson can GTFO. Bebe needs valuable experience, and at Besiktas we'll be able to see if he can hack it.

    Starting line-up:

    --------------------------De Gea------------------

    ----Rafael-----Ferdinand---------Vidic--------Evra

    ---------------------------Fletcher-------------------

    -------Sanchez---------------------------------Nani--

    -------------------------Sneijder----------------------

    ------------------Rooney------------------------------

    -----------------------------Hernandez----------------

Many of you will see this as a pipe dream, but we will be investing a lot of money this summer, and don't be suprised if we end up with a much changed starting line-up. Oh, and can the mods not lock my thread for no reason.

I think we will buy 2 more players, 1 is a CM and 1 is a GK.

Not sure about the young/sanchez thing. I would love it if true, but i don't think SAFis the kinda manager to **** around with a player that they've already told they're going to sign. I also want us to get sneijder, but i can't see us getting both him and sanchez.
I also hope your wrong about berbs as he's a player that is different to all the other strikers we have.

And why would our wesley go to bolton? ;)

    It will more likely be

    Phil Jones
    David De Gea
    Ashley Young
One other - probably a central midfielder

Sanchez and Sneijder are pipe dreams

A lot in the papers regarding us and Sanchez. So I think there is somthing in that. Fergie has always been an admirer of Sneijder so I think that is a possibility. I think De Gea is a slam dunk. Ashley Young depends on whether the Sanchez rumours come to fruition. I hope we do get Sanchez over Young though...

At this moment in time i think that getting sneijder is more likely then getting sanchez as we already have young on standby, so it's not really an issue we need to address. CM however is an area that needs serious development, so i can see us spending quite large in this area. I'm just glad we have the De Gea deal more or less sewn up. I couldn't bare it if we needed to find another player we desperately needed.

In my opinion Young and De Gea will sign.

Sneijder and Sanchez will not - I would love them to but can't see it happening.

I also think Fergie will sign a midfielder but I have no idea who

I am happy we have the Young deal on standby. But after watching Sanchez for several seasons and knowing Fergie has been tracking him, I can safely say I would rather invest my money in Sanchez as opposed to Young. The only pro I would give Young over Sanchez is his nationality.

That's probably realistic. A lot of talk about De Rossi which I can't see happening at all. I would say we would put in a cheeky bid for Nasri if we couldn't get Sneijder. So far I am still not 100% on whether Sneijder is staying or going, there are a lot of mixed signals on him. That is the best time to strike with a bid.

I can't understand why we would consider signing Sanchez when we have 2 quality right wingers in Nani and Valencia. And don't give me that speculative fanny about Nani leaving as we all know he would only be sold if someone comes in with a trully ridiculous offer.

I never said Nani would leave. The reason we would sign Sanchez is that we need to invest this summer on young talent before regulations and rules on spending are imposed. He is a calculated investment. He is also able to play in the centre of midfield so i'm pretty sure Valencia and Nani could be accomodated. Squad rotation is an important part of winning mulitple competitions and you can never have to much of something good.

If we are talking about future rules and regulations, wouldn't it make more sense to go for young? the english option?

Sanchez is three years younger than Ashley Young and ,in my opinion, he has a much higher ceiling.

I think we may end up with rodwell; rumours going round that other clubs are interested and i think the same will happen as with jones Fergie is clearly a fan and i think he may want to wait another season; as he wasnt great last season, but other clubs moving in may force him to buy now before its too late

I'm not so high on Rodwell myself, I think Cleverley could do just as good a job for us...

We don't need to be carefull about our spending, we are already compliant with financial fair play in that we earn more than we spend, which is why we have £160+ million in ouor transer kitty that is all earned through the club.

As for Sanchez, he's a versatile player, he can play on the left, right or through the middle or up front, so having him join doesn't leave Nani without a position. It just means we have one more talented young attacking player. Young would still be a decent punt as he's reliable and is a good option for the left and he can also play through the middle if needed.

Nani, Valencia, Sanchez and Young would give us 4 high standard wingers to choose from. Then we'd have the likes of Park who plays across the midfield but isn't a winger and I think that's a pretty good selection to have.

That is good thinking, but in practise it won't work for several reasons. The squad rotation with 4 world class wingers is different to 3 and would mean we would not get settled starting line-ups with can be detromental to results, as Benitez's antics proved for Liverpool. Also, there will be a couple of frustrated players that aren't getting as much playing time as the others which will cause friction in the dressing room and that can cause a domino effect to occur onto the pitch. I would much rather invest in one versatile winger in Sanchez than acquiring Young and Sanchez together.

Certainly a good point, but I feel we can make up for it by getting English players in other positions.
