Relying on Janmaat and Colback for crosses is really bad. Colback isn't good enough for first choice CM. We need a creative central player and a winger.
Colback looks really solid this game- we are bidding arsenals midfield so far. Though xhaka would be a welcome addition.
Genuine question... if we got Debuchy in on a loan and pushed Janmaat up as a winger would that work maybe?
I wouldn't spend anything because we are basically going down regardless now. I'm not even joking just look at our fixtures and it's hard to see a win until mid feb maybe at home to west brom. I think this is going to be the death of a sleeping giant and we will be in the lower leagues forever or at least our entire lives.
It's been suggested in the press that we may have 15 million to spend in this window. I don't know if that's true or not. My first thought is that it's no where near enough. Let's say that for the right players there could be more? Seems to me it doesn't matter if Ashley sanctions triple that amount, why? Because you have to ask yourself, who on earth is going to want to gamble on joining a club with zero ambition, in a relegation dogfight and no guarantees of maintaining their PL status. No hope of silverware, decent attempts at a cup run, European competition or even a top half finish. Surely any player who could seriously help us out of the mire, will have ample opportunities to go elsewhere, and therefore will do just that.
I think the only plus point we have when looking at getting decent players in is that we do have a few established internationals in the squad. Players seeing Gini, Janmaat, Sissoko, Tiote (if he continues to play well) & Krul may think that we are below our position. add this to the financial side of the PL and we may have a chance. Not a great chance I admit but it's all I can think of!
15m and mcclaren wants a striker who guarantees goals. So we are buying one player then? Good luck locating that 15m striker who can't wait to get involved in our relegation battle. We need to spend treble that as we simply must buy a left back and centre back. However the bigger problem will now being able to spend that amount of money. Who of the quality we need will want to come? Our best bet is to get some scrappers on the cheap to try and bully our way out of it plus a few loans. Of course our policies don't allow that either. I can see us just saying we think we have enough, the players weren't available of the right quality, we don't like buying in January or for the short term etc etc. We can still get out of the situ we are in but you'd have to change tack
We have been 'offered' Loic Remy on loan for the rest of the season apparently. That would make sense. Guaranteed goals and would allow the £15 million elsewhere. Also, a ****ing ridiculous policy. We need to buy a permanent striker and also strengthen other areas. That would cost at least £50 million.
£15 million is just an Ashley pisstake, Tufty should be battling for significant funds and should have moved as soon as the window opened, sitting on their hands and playing games at this stage with the future of the club in the PL at stake is just crazy, considering the next round of tv rights money due to hit the PL and the even bigger gap this will create to the Championship Ashley needs to get his head out of his arse and change his stance on the clubs operation. Tufty needs to grow a pair and put it on the line with Ashley, no good being a spineless twat and meandering into the Championship, anyone who thinks relegation is somehow a good thing needs to either stop the drugs or take their medicine, there is no upside to relegation.
We have an underwhelming depth in talent but the talent we do have should be more than enough to have at least 10 points more than we do now. Wijnaldum playing a wide role accompanied by two holding midfield players has really held us back. Not to mention our lack of depth in defense.
The thing is that I can't see the club attracting the players with the calibre (technically and mentally) needed to stay up. There will be loads willing to come for a quick payout as long as they have a parachute (i.e. a relegation clause) in their contract. But these are the sort of players which are not needed.
The problem we have is maybe we need a few players now who are not of the overall quality we are aiming for, but have that mental edge and willingness to scrap. Even then there are no guarantees. Look at Nolan and Raylor, both were great for us but couldn't stop the rot arriving in January. Maybe we should have sorted a few more issues in the summer...
If we do have a net spend anywhere higher than £20m I'll get my arse out in a pink tutu in Fenwicks Window.
