We should strengthen our denense in the summer

  1. I personally think, and i know others share this view, that strengthening our defense should be on our list of priorities next transfer window.

I'm happy with Colo, Enrique and Simmo. However, even though i think Saylor and Williamson are good CB's, i would like to sign better options. I think Williamson is ok, he's good in the air and a good ariel attack going forward, but he's not the most reliable CB in my opinion. At times he looks very championship class. I think he'd be ok as cover, and i'd be quite content with him on the bench.

I like Stevey Taylor alot, but he's just too injury prone. He's a class CB, but we cannot say "oh give him more of a chance, he's been incredibly unlucky". I agree. He's been extremely unlucky, but we can't just hope he has a long spell of fitness.

We need to sign a quality CB. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

If we do sign another CB. We'll have Coloccini and the new CB starting, and Willo and Taylor as cover. That's a decent CB + cover in my opinion. I think we also need to sign a cover for the full back positions, one that can play both sides. Perch can play both sides, but he's ****e, and i haven't seen enough of Gosling to suggest he could do the job.

Any suggestions for cover for full backs?

I also think Kadar and Tavernier should remain on loan.

Can't really say there is much wrong with our defence overall and we have a great bunch for CB. RB and LB need covering in case of injuries but apart from that we're fine.

The attack needs to be strengthened in my opinion during the summer and perhaps more back up for Tiote as he collects yellows like it's a hobby.

I would MAYBE sign left back cover but I think it would be a waste of money when it is needed to strengthen elsewhere i.e. wings and up front.

We've got 3/4 decent CB's and right full back cover in Raylor, defensively, back up for Jose is essential, we've been so lucky he's been fit and consistent all season. From comments Pardew has made recently I think we'll see a striker or 2 and some 4-5 younger guys coming in in the Summer.

    In order of importance:

    Strikers > Defence > Midfield > Goalkeepers

Best goal difference outside of the top 5 should suggest our defence is doing something right :D

Nothing wrong with improving the team but our priority should be strengthening where we are weakest, which is up front and on the wings.

I definately agree we could do with LB cover though.

Perch did well at LB against Spurs, he can do for cover then. We have: Simpson/Raylor Colo/Saylor Willo/Kadar Jose/Perch not to mention some very promising youngsters.

    Agree with this definitely.
    Strikers are main priority obviously.

But I agree with Tash we need more defensive cover. Cover for LB is needed. I think one more CB too. If anything happened to Colo, what with Saylor's injury proneness as well I wouldn't fancy using Sol sorry.
But that's just my opinion, shoot me down if you so wish.

I deninitely agree we need cover for Jose but our denence has been quite solid <laugh>. We need two quality strikers at least and then we can start to look at the full backs. Once fit our squad isn't far off, strength in depth in every area apart from LB and forwards.

Our squad fully fit is a force to be reckoned with most definitely, apart from up front, though Besty's getting there.
Given our injury record though....ruins it a bit.

Just gonna echo what pretty much everyone else has said and say, Striker and winger are priority, I'm happy with the defence!

Ah the old LB cover thing, just who would join knowing they'd be cover for Jose? No one better than Kadar/Ferguson IMO

I think Kadar will be ok as the 4th CB next season, he'll only be 4th choice and Williamson and Saylor are both good, both steady, PL quality CBs, and Colo is a definite starter.

Is it only me who thinks Simpson is a bit 'ropey'?

I think he's quality but can find himself too far advanced which makes his defensive work look poor. If he works on his positioning he'll be one of the best in the league!

Simpson gets caught out sometimes but is certainly capable and will only get better.

  18. I'm sorry, you're entitled to your opinion, but that's rubbish. Simpson has done little wrong this season. He's been more consistant that all of our other defenders. He's not as good quality as Enrique or Colo, but he's had no more than 1 or 2 poor games, where as Enrique and Colo, althought they've been class for most of the season, have had a canny few off games, Enrique especially.

Dont dismiss his opinion as rubbish, if you watch Simpson he does get caught too far forward sometimes and Williamson has to cover him, leaving Colo with 2 players to mark.
