We are very lucky to continue to enjoy the support of Marcus Evans says Clegg and we will not be held to ransome by players who come to the end of their contracts. We will only offer extended contract to players who we want to keep! So does that mean that we didn't want to keep Leadboots? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17894401
Indeed it does Warky. There is no other perceivable interpretation. We weren't too fussed about keeping Leadbitter, so we offered him a contract.
I think its obvious we wanted to keep him, otherwise we would have released him like Sonko, Bowyer etc and we wouldnt have kept extending his deadline. The club obviously offered what they considered to be a fair deal and he thinks he can get a better offer elsewhere. The club cant just give into wage demands and I assume they think they can find better for less money elsewhere. Regardless we have to keep wages under control. For me it seems a pointless story- name a club that wont offer a new contract to a player they want to keep.
