They have just appointed Sean O'Driscol as manager with Steve Coppel as Director of football. 2 Experienced football men who can boast managing promotion winning teams. We could have had O'Driscol a few seasons ago when his star was rising with Donny. Who did we end up with? Dumb and ****ing Dumber! No wonder we are in such a mess when even lower league clubs can attract decent football people to run their club. Who knows we might be playing them in the league the season after next if we are lucky!
Couldn't believe it when O'Driscoll was appointed as a coach at Forest in January, I was quite vocal in my preference for O'Driscoll when we were looking at Jewell and Houghton etc. but for one reason or another that was a route that never really got explored... although that said he did turn down the job at Sheff Utd months before and always looked like he had a strong commitment to Donny so would have been a struggle to pry him away, although that said Donny decided to let him go.... which certainly leaves them with egg on their face now. As for Crawley, I have to disagree with you JWM, they are a pretty much hated club that have spent big money (in relation to the other clubs in their league(s)) and the appointment of Coppell means nothing to me really, might pay off, might not. He might bottle it and walk out, he might not. I think they have reached their peak in terms of what they can achieve although O'Driscoll is a very wise move from the club
What a strange comment. Its not the case that we CANT attract such 'talent' but the fact we chose not to. Regardless of whether you want Jewell here, AFAIK it was him the club wanted. I cant recall anyone turning us down - although correct me if Im wrong. I liked the job O'Driscoll done at Doncaster and he played entertaining football but you could argue that they were very much a 1 man team for a lot of his time there. Sharp kept them going and once he had gone then they had nothing left. Admittedly part of this was down to a small budget but they appear to have very little substance to the club. I dont think Crawley will show a true test of his ability either. They are very much the man city of the lower leagues and I would imagine that anything other than promotion would be seen as a failure next season. As you said JWM, it would be good if we did go down the route of true footballing men like Crawley but as I have already commented, I believe our decision not to was out of choice and not due to rejection
crawley town is probably the last football club i would bring up when it comes to arguing about 'running the club the right way'
