QUOTE Queens Park Rangers have been linked with a £10 million bid for Marseille and France striker Loic Remy. It would be a great move for the club but maybe not for the player. The Daily Mail has reported that sources in France are claiming that QPR have been in contact with Marseille over the signing of 25-year-old Marseille striker Loic Remy. Harry Redknapp has admitted that he is looking to bring one or two players into the club and Remy could be the tool the side needs to fire in the goals to avoid relegation. The original reports coming from French newspaper L’Equipe, suggest that Marseille will be willing to listen to any bids of around £10 million for the French front man with the figure likely to be pushed up to between £12 million and £15 million. This is certainly a fee QPR could afford considering the financial backers of the club. The biggest problem they may face is getting Remy to sign on the dotted line because he may look at some of the recent players who have gone to QPR and be put off. Esteban Granero is the perfect example having signed for QPR from Real Madrid; from Spanish champions to a Premier League side fighting at the bottom of the table. However, this is an area where Harry Redknapp would come into his own because he has great man management skills and is very influential when getting players to consider transfers to the club he is the boss of. He’s done it everywhere he’s been with Rafael Van Der Vaart moving to Spurs on the last day of a transfer window the perfect example. The other stumbling block that QPR have to overcome is the fact Remy still has three years to run on his current contract. He has all of the power because he is under no pressure to leave the French side. He would undoubtedly have a bigger role to play at QPR but this means he can effectively ask for whatever person terms he desires because he’s already on a safe contract. If he does opt for a move to QPR then he would play a similar role in the team to Adel Taarabt but in a more central attacking position. Remy is a very quick and busy striker who can play on the shoulder of the defence but he has a slight reliance on being fed from the midfield. The biggest immediate effect that Remy joining QPR would have is giving everyone at the club a boost at a time where they are struggling. The fans would have renewed optimism that the club could stave off the threat of relegation and become a much better team over the course of this season and next as a result.UNQUOTE Can't recall seeing him play, but at least he's comparatively youthful.
We've already got one French striker who's not all that and this one has all the promise to be another Stéphane Guivarc'h. Avoid.
