We need a striker in on loan, and quickly. Someone from League 1 or above. We can't rely on Rendell/Strevs/Beavs/Pitman or indeed any combination of them to fire us up into League 1. Look at all the teams around us - Chesterfield have Davies, Rotherham - Le Fondre, Bury - Lowe, Shrewsbury - Wright, Vale - Richards (x 2!). All of them on well over 10 goals so far and looking good for goals for the run in. FOr ages throughout the season I thought we would be okay, even when we weren't scoring much before. For one reason or another (many being very unfortunate) we haven't had consistency up front and when we start get a bit of consistency the goals dry up. I'm not denying the work-rate of them, they've all played well - but they need to score more and they're not doing it. Sounds like a dire performance today but looking at the stats we had the chances. Views?
I don't think Strevens on the wing works (nearly 4-3-3 but not quite). We would have been better off with another midfielder who can create chances. Really missed Blooms and Betsy today. I know I'm on the same soapbox again, but why won't refs warn and then book goalkeepers for wasting time? Maybe it's because he was too fat and quite likes a rest, but it makes for an awful spectacle, and puts off occasional visitors. What was out first goal disallowed for? I thought we were going to get a penalty as their No 4 was practically strangling one of our players in the box.
I get the point jock about the need for a regular scorer to push us on, but if you take out chesterfield and rotherham i dont think the others have that regular a goalscorer and c'fields and rotherhams goalscorers have dried up a bit recently. Wright at shrews is a winger and will make more than he scores as for port vale look at there goals for column its as bleak as ours. I beleive that the need for a forward in on loan is not perhaps the answer either. Beavon for all his guile and hard graft doesn't get the goals and ultimately thats what he's in the side to do, strevens for me is a waste of space, so i think the forward line should be rendell and pitman they look the more likely to score and could work well together considering there differant strengths but nothin will work if it isn't given time to develop.
rendell in my opinion will come good he just needs the service ,he took his goal very well on saturday and also played well ,i also agree strevs i dont think is gonna get you 20 goals a season and hasnt got the skills beever has got to take on and beat a player but he isnt scoring goals at the moment so its time to try jp and rendell up front together.our problem on saturday was we had no leftside either at full back or on the wing, betsy gives us that outlet whether he is on form or not he does create chances.
What about Lowe at Bury (we nearly signed him at the start of the season!), McDonald at Gillingham and Donaldson at Crewe? I also think Rendell will come good, as will JPP... but I don't want to have to rely on them for the rest of this season. JPP's not experienced enough and Rendell's had so much terrible stuff happen I'm surprised he's scoring at all (and I'd like to add how much I admire him for carrying on and playing so well) I haven't seen the games so as always feel a bit daft commenting... but look at the stats from the last three:. v Accrington: 9 shots, 3 on target v Southend: 15 shots, 5 on target v Bradford: 9 shots, 3 on target I guess the thing is they'er not playing badly... yes, Beavon takes men on and wins, JPP is really fast and they're all grafters... but we need someone who's going to do what a striker is supposed to do. I think they can all come good but I think they are out of form when it comes to goals. that to me suggests service but not finishing...
Could prove a tough game, especially as confidence is low. You're wobbling again, as predicted.........
Thanks Jenny I'd forgotten that, I was nearly worried. May Shropshire flourish eh.... what with Harrold bangin' them in...
And the subject of this thread is?!?! Listen laddie, you should concentrate on your own sides SERIOUS lack of goals & leave us to enjoy Harrolds 'electric' form! He really is having a great season you know! LOL.
Jenny, seriously now. Are you carrying the "ginger ones" love child? We had the same appraisal of Harrold from many fans of his previous clubs i.e. he is a tryer, but basically limited. Glad your loving the signing. His career stats of 50 goals in 262 starts obviously gets you Shrews salivating
Yes Jenny, a SERIOUS lack of goals. See we're back where we belong (above you). I'm pleased to say how humbled i am with my team's reply in response to the title of this thread. Wibble wobble.
Who needs Matt Harrold when we have Rendell and JPP?? Last night was much more like it from Wycombe and Stuart Lewis is looking to be an absolute steal of a free transfer. Hopefully the wheels are now back on the Wycombe Wagon!!
rendell is a much better player than the ginger donkey thats for sure and now that jp is back we should be ok.gutted i missed the match but by all accounts we played well and could have won by a bigger margin
Dear me, you've won one game & lost three. You've also lost an even better point advantage too. And you're celebrating?! Jeez.. You folk make me laugh. Up the Wasps!!
