Going on from the "original chants" thread, it got me thinking, we need a song that riles the opposition supporters so much they just relentlessly boo all the way through it, I'm thinking like Liverpool or Leeds, two teams I generally despise, but two with famous songs. I know we've got "Can't Help Falling in Love" as somewhat of an anthem, but let's be honest, who doesn't? We've got two options, pick some relatively obscure seeming irrelevant song and make it our own, or write our own. Ideas here.
How about 'we love you Barmby, we do!...' and 'Nigel Pearsons Black and Amber Army'! We will give you a megaphone TWF so you can lead the singing and get to meet us fans!
Posted this earlier .. It could work Or to the Beatles - All you need is Love - " All you need is Hull etc - Hull is all you need "
For you TWF Young man, Please get off of our boards, I said young man, Your a bit of a bore, I said young man, I think I'm going to ignore, Your child-ish rants, a-bout, Pear-son
Liverpool have the best song of all clubs, but the Leeds 'Marching on Together' bollocks is painful, it makes 0-1-4-8-2 sound a decent tune...
If your referring to never walk alone, didn't they steal that of Man Utd ages ago and therefore would not be considered as original?
I think that's an urban myth. The song started being sung at Anfield when the band Gerry and the Pacemakers(who were Liverpool fans) had a hit with it in the '60's, I think it's every bit their song.
http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/130093_youll_never_walk_alone_is_our_song According to this it was used at Man United after the Munich crash.
From what I understand there were numerous clubs who sang it in the 60s, it just stuck with Liverpool, and Celtic.
We could just chant ( in accent ofcourse ) '' 'ULL 'ULL 'ULL 'ULL '' Repeatably that would piss me off if i was in the opposition support
Lukas, I have just re-read all replies to this thread, and, apart from a couple of cheeky little replies, most have been "on-topic". In fact it caused a discussion on the history of the use of "you'll never walk alone"!!
Am I alone in finding Leeds 'marching on together' a bit crap ? I actually cringe when I hear it and dont think its a million miles away from 'mauled by the tigers' in terms of campness.... at least the mauled one is meant to be laughed at ...maybe its just me
i like west hams..i sometimes find myself singing it when im at work.. ill leave, my scarf and city shirt at the door on my way out..
"You'll Never Walk Alone" was originally from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, Carousel, the fact that an operatic society in Derbyshire thought the words were appropriate for a performance after the Munich air crash hardly makes it a Man United song.
Nobody associates it with Man Utd though they could claim to have been the first to use the lyrics. I doubt they'd want to start singing it these days anyway!
Back to original post. Yes we do need our own original anthem. Leeds 'Marching On' might sound a bit camp, but to be fair it qualifies as an original anthem for them. 'Falling in Love' might be ok (although some hate it) but it's not original, there's not really much to it, etc. It could never qualify as our anthem. 'Mauled' might be original, but it's hardly an 'anthem', it's only got 6 words in it! (what was that about us sounding dumb!) and we can only actually sing it when were at least 2 or 3 infront. One day someone will rise to the challenge and provide us with our own original, fitting anthem. It took us 104 years to get to Wembley and the top flight; I fear it might take another 104 years at this rate before we finally get our own anthem.
