I am looking at the foot of the table and do not think 40 points means safety!!
If we win tomorrow by 2 goals we go 11th, mid table, normal safety with only 2 games left. But this season i think that may be different. Wigan have 35 with 3 to play, they are playing well and with that and a bit of luck could manage to escape again!

the Skunks, Norwich, Soton and us are in it as are Villa Fulham and Stoke the last three already have 40 points but as you can see it is so close and some teams are playing well and fighting for that win while others are struggling. Goal difference may well play a big part this season looking at how close everyone is points wise.

There are players and fans everywhere thinking 40 points will see them safe but some how I just don't see it at all, We are all in the mire till the end of the season the way results are going so we had better get used to it and brace our selves because someone is in for a big shock pretty soon!

    Pos
    11 Stoke 35 -10 40
    12 Fulham 36 -11 40
    13 Aston Villa 36 -21 40
    14 Southampton 36 -11 39
    15 Norwich 36 -22 38
    16 Newcastle 36 -23 38
    17 Sunderland 35 -12 37
    18 Wigan 35 -22 35

40 points for us is 41 effectively due to GD.

Win tomorrow, and that'll be enough, although a win or even point against Saints will be welcomed.

That depends on stoke and fulham as they could be dragged back in and have similar goal difference.

With the fall of games it's pretty much impossible for that to happen.

It's between us, Wigan, Norwich & the Toon, I think Wigan will win Tuesday, meaning it's us or the Toon in the bottom 3, depending on tomorrow.

Norwich will go for me, I did the predictor and that's how I see it, I had us on 41, and the Toon surviving on 40.

Wigan are currently on 35 points, I can see them beating Swansea and Villa that will give them 41. For me 41 points is what we need to be safe.

Its between us Norwich and Villa.

The scum have QPR next week and even they can't **** that one up with QPR down and the players already in holiday mode.

We have 2 bites of the cherry: Stoke and Southampton, IMO we wont get anything vs Spurs on the last day.

Villa actually have it toughest, Chelsea and then Wigan, I can't see them beating Chelsea although they are at home, and I can't see them beating Wigan on the last day.

Norwich have West Brom at home who are not playing for anything so I can see them winning that. They have got Man City on the last day.

In all my predictions if we win today or next week or draw all 3 we are safe and Villa go down. We need 3 more points.

I am very tempted to have £50 on Villa to go.

For God's sake stop reading the contract small print. It's like the party of the first part hereinafter known as the ........ shall be known represented by the party of the second part, notwithstanding the already party known as the ................

Take each game as it comes Sunderland only.

I am sure a 1 goal win takes us above Stoke as we will both be -11 but we have scored more goals.

Knowing Sunderland as we do we will probably just get a point tonight to keep our nerves jangling just a bit longer.

    This is Sunderland.

Draw against Stoke and Saints, making us brick it until the last game, then we beat Spurs to survive - as Spurs won't have anything left to play for in the last game.

Some say only a fool would skip the small print fella ;)

Seriously how can you not look at what going on around us? You must be made out of stone.

Anyone from the bottom half can still go down mathematically, it's the closest relegation battle in years. How can you not look at the other teams as a football fan?

It's so interesting and it's filling my days with pleasure.
