We offically have 25 first teamers according to the club. These consist of: 3 Goalkeepers 1 Rightback 3 Leftbacks 6 Centebacks 3 Wingers 2 Centremids 2 Attacking midfielders 5 Strikers (6 if you count Keogh today) I know people say Grayson is bad in the transfer market, but this squad just seems to have been put together without any thought of the positions of players let alone the quality. Of these 25 players, Grayson either signed or gave debuts to 20 of them. This is a terribly built squad, not just on quality. This is why we end up playing centrebacks as fullbacks and giving debuts to 18 year olds in a League match when we're 1 nil down.
I agree,he's working on a limited budget so why do we need SIX centre backs? Overloaded in that department & a waste of wages. We already had 5 CB's when he brought in another one,O'Dea. If he's been brought in to play LB Grayson's lost the plot. Also Grella's being totally ignored so might as well discount him, though on Saturday when we had only one fit striker I would have thought it would have been worth having Grella on the bench. So with the injuries to Somma,Becchio.Paynter,Grella & Bessone outcasts & transfer-listed,Bruce seemingly surplus to requirement & Gradel & Howson suspended, there's your answer. Its a squad that's been assembled in a piss-poor manner,no matter how limited the budget.
if Grella ouldn't make the bench the last 2 games he should be released otherwise just wasting his and our time
I think Grayson is too quick to cast off players. Especially those that he signs. We do have a very limited budget, and that doesn't look like changing anytime soon. So instead of isolating certain players (which obviously is bad for team morale) he should give them a second chance. Players like O'Dea are signed to replace Bessone, but he's actually no better. The same with O'Brien for Alex Bruce. So instead of giving a second chance, he signs a player of equal ability to replace them. Paytner and Grella are another example.
I must admit I would prefer to carry on with Bessone until we can sort the position out permanently. O'Dea isn't any better and we are just paying Besones wages to do sweet FA. I am really getting pissed off with loan signings, in the last 3 years we have had one decent one, Lichaj. Same as Keogh, I really am not holding my breathe on that one, if he turns out to be a star great but why the hell did we give Grella a contract if he can't even make the bench. I also made a comment here http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/75748-Only-Six-Points-Behind-the-Leaders!! about the squad lacking in a few positions and too many signings with a hit and miss approach. It has been a long time since we have carried so much dead wood as we are at the moment.
Exactly, I mean Bessone was terrible in his 8 games for us, but O'Dea really isn't any better. Alex Bruce was inconsistent in his performance last season, but AOB has been terrible as his replacement. Basically, Grayson won't be allowed to do any work in the transfer market until he frees up some space in the squad and wage bill by moving on these surplus players.
