David Goodwillie looks to be joining Blackburn for £2.8M (after add ons) and yet we could have got him for a season loan just a month or so ago. If we had taken the risk of taking him on, against the court action being taken against him, we would have got one of the best football prospects I have seen for a long time. In the end the court threw out the action against him (as lawyers stated would happen) as there was no real evidence against him and he will join a boring premiership team with their 15,000 supporters!
He wouldn't have joined and we wouldn't have known we would have needed a loan striker a month ago! I'm sick of every player we don't sign becoming "one that got away".
He wanted Premiership football and would doubtless have rejected any Leeds approach, as he would any other club outside the top tier.
We were linked with Goodwille the season we got promoted, was proabably worth 1 mil bk then, no ambition I suppose, im used to it now ...........
We don't need a permanent striker! We need at most a loanee to cover while Becchio's out. Whether he was cleared of rape or not he's still charged with kicking a man about the head and body in Glasgow city centre, not the kind of player I want I'm afraid. EDIT: And you wouldn't know a good player if he came and kicked you about the head and body.
I get sick of my fellow Leeds fans thinking because we're a "big club" that we should be spending millions on players. In terms of spending ability, we're a small club, we don't have millions to be throwing at players, we can't even bloody afford Alan Smith wages. Does that mean we can't be successful? No! Look at our best players, Max Gradel bought from Leicester for about 750k, Robert Snodgrass, 35k from Livingston, Nunez, free, Somma, free, Becchio, 300k.
It was suggested to me that Goodwillie's agent contacted a few English clubs in April, to see if they would be interested in taking him on loan for a period, due to the issues related to him at Dundee Utd. One of those clubs was Leeds United and that the player himself was interested in the move. For some reason (possibly concern over the possible criminal conviction against him) we didn't show much interest and let it go. I know we could not afford his wages now, nor the transfer fee, but we did have a chance of getting him and we didn't act.
But we wouldn't have needed him on loan when he was offered and he still does have the possibility of a criminal conviction hanging over his head!
The criminal conviction for the alleged rape, has been dropped and the other criminal conviction for assualt has also been dropped. He is now free from charges against him. The lady who reported the assualt/rape, may take civil action against him, but not legal.
I'm not surprised we let it go after all the bad publicity with Bowyer and Woodgate a few years back - We don't need the grief... And as you stated in another thread bigfat Leeds has a bad reputation for thugs lets not put them on the field as well.
It could well have been a decision based on the past and concerns about the players personal life, still a pity as he is a cracking player.
So Mr Ban Our Fans Who Have Controversial Views is actively seeking a player who is a criminal scumbag?
....You have either a problem with reading English and understanding it or your just thick, which one is it?
