As far as going out in the last 16 goes we still picked up a few decent victories along the way. Firstly we drew Udinese who are 4th in the Italian league and ahead of Napoli and Inter. We got past them, which was no mean feat. It was always going to be a tough game but we came through Then we had the following group: Olympiakos - top of the greek league Marseille - just beat inter milan in the 1st leg of the last 16 without their best player Dortmound - Runaway leaders of the german league and comfortably a better side than the team that knocked £ity out of the cl. And we won that group. I know dortmound were a bit naive and had bad injuries problems at the emirites but we still rolled them over. Then in the last 16 you often expect an easier draw (when you win the group) in the last 16 but we drew the team top in italy, the current champions and easily the most succesful club in the world in recent history. Even then we almost got through in the end. Add to that the fact that we started awfully in the league and lost our best player (ok now I know rvp >cesc now that rvp is fit) and one of our other good players (nasri). But despite this we are looking good for 4th minimum this year. So I think Wenger needs some credit from all the fans . We certainly shouldnt sack him because he is top quality. Of course he isnt perfect but better to have someone we know is decent and not someone terrible. Of course the test will be in the summer. He needs to shift the deadwood and make some clever buys.
Our last three draws in the knock out stages of the CL have been Barcelona,Barcelona and then AC Milan. Do need more luck next time, hopefully there is a next time.
Well last year we got unlucky but only had ourselves (well wenger and the ref) to blame for not winning the group. This year we did everything right and still drew the italian champions Edit: in fact in the last 4 draws we have drawn: Ac Milan (toughest side we could draw) Udinese - toughest side we could draw Barca - toughest side barca - toughest side What a joke lol
The problem was'nt really the draw. We just had a shocking display in the first leg. ANY of those teams would have beaten us the way we played in the first leg.
Not sure what you mean by unlucky draw. You WILL have to play and beat the best to win the tournament, whether it be in the group games or the finals. We just weren't good enough to progress. This pretty much sums up our whole season to be honest. What we are LUCKY with is Chelsea playing so badly this season, Liverpool playing poorly and Spur's choking at such a key stage.....but then again that's usual
