Johnson reiterates need for three transfer windows Head coach admits there is still a gap for City to bridge. Johnson reiterates it could take three transfer windows to mould his City team January will be the head coach's second opportunity to add to the squad Boss states current players still have the chance to develop and improve Lee Johnson has reiterated it could take three transfer windows to get his City team where he wants it to be. Appointed in February, the head coach oversaw an incredibly busy summer in which a total of 33 deals were done at Ashton Gate, including 12 new arrivals to the first team squad. But Johnson admits there is still a gap to bridge between City and the very best Sky Bet Championship sides. “I see a few too many things that upset me against the top teams,” he said. “We have to grow and keep getting better – whether that’s through nurturing our own or bringing players in. “We need to continue on our path of developing our players because we have to give them the opportunity. “But if they can’t take it, they have to drop down the pecking order and someone else comes in over the top of them. “It sounds a bit negative, but that’s just the process of an evolving football club. “This is why I’ve said we need three transfer windows, because clearly there’s still business to be done to match the top couple of teams.” http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/...-need-for-three-transfer-windows-3416721.aspx
We are listening but is there a feeling creeping in that not everybody is, there must be a motive for all of this constant repetition of the same news stories. We haven't heard from Mr Lansdown Snr or Mark Ashton for a while are they listening?
2/3rds of the proof of the pudding will be after January 2017. That will be his second transfer window out of the 3 he keeps referring to. IMHO we're currently considerably short of being serious top 6 contenders as some of the big guns (Leeds, Derby etc) are now finding some form, but maybe things will change....who knows. Only time will tell, and I think that's one thing that LJ has on his side.
including 12 new arrivals to the first team squad - How may are playing ? The likes of Fielding, Bryan, Flint, Pack, Wilbraham, Freeman, Little, Korey and Reid, that's NINE, who play regularly and here before Junior. Junior's building bridges, he knows he's not up to it. A few on here will catch up - eventually. PS Let's not forget the £11million he's has to spend in January is down to Cotterill.
we now have a competent "manager / assistant" in JP ...... knew exactly what was wrong when SC GOT SACKED we now have a manager with "L" plate strapped to his back .......... performing well but as was said by fans from previous clubs " a bit erratic" we have now acquired an assistant with " L " plate on his back ... old friend of LJ come to "his aid?" or is it thought by SL and MA they don't have trust in LJ ... YET? and have brought in reinforcements... short of top 6? probably short of top 10
Cotterill failed and was unable to spend it, he was on the verge of taking us back down, "A few on here will catch up - eventually"!! Is your memory failing you RP?!!
More so than anything else, it's probably because the Post only has so much they can put on the back page every day. I'm still comfortable with where we are in the long-term - reaching the top six would be very nice, but given the stature and resources of other clubs in this division, it should be an aspirational target for us, rather than the minimum expectation. Hopefully we can improve our form in the immediacy and get one or two reinforcements in January to mount a surprise challenge. I think next season should be when we can expect to be there or thereabouts.
I took this report and others from the official Bristol City Web Site which in turn feeds it to the Bristol Post, I just question the constant repetition of facts stemming from LJ, he has told us, we acknowledge that, the majority of us believe he has a done reasonable job so far, why can't he just get on with it and let the results do the talking and stop this barrage of repetition..
'Cotterill failed and was unable to spend it' Never allowed was he, you believe the 'news' that comes directly from Lansdown. It will come out bit by bit, O'Neil is a perfect example. Under SC's tenure we had the best season since the 70's, how's your memory ? SC's history now, we're stuck with the present - runt !
Agree he did well for us........In League 1.......but seems like the Championship is a league he struggles with. Not had many jobs since, why is that? It's good that the "runt" that you refer to saved us and seems to be making a decent go of it in the league that SC struggled with!!
How do you actually know he wasn't allowed? It was ok to put a request for Gayle and Gray for £9 million each and spend £2.5 million on Kodjia (good deal that one) so where is it stated they was just joke bids? Also that O'Neill rumour, why would O'Neill want to move last season from a club just promoted to the prem to us? I think your bitterness is starting to cloud your mind.
time is an event of sequence and duration how much duration is it you are thinking of a month a year a decade???
JG2 - It's risky answering you but I'll try. In my view Junior was completely the wrong appointment so I think he's already had enough time. TBF to Junior he's been handed a poisoned chalice. Like it or not Junior has 'history' at AG and when the fans turn, as they will, AG will not be a nice place to be. He's spent zillions and we're going south and will be allowed to spend another fortune in January. Of the 12 he's signed how many play ? Remember, 9 who were already here play regularly. He will last longer than most - he's SL's appointment and SL will spend the Earth not to be seen to have ballsed up. Ask yourself - Who else in the Championship would have appointed Junior ? Others with views believe he hasn't had enough time. Nothing wrong with that. I disagree but hope they're right even though, as all on here know, I can't stand him.
Sounds like the gloss has come of our ship but I just hope we can't sink back to the previous years - but don't hold your breath because I am seeing cracks below the water line. P.S. Barnsley.
...So what should he have achieved in the time he's had so far? Top 2? Disappointing current form, but in the grand scale of things, he's done enough so far. Ask me at the start of the season if I'd take 9th after 16 games I think it would've been a convincing 'yes'.
He's asked for 3 Transfer Windows, so providing we are not fighting relegation this season, and as Redprintt has correctly identified, he will undoubtedly be given much more time than anyone else would have been afforded. But next Summer will be window 3 of 3, and then it will be time to deliver by us hitting the ground running next August having cut out all of the silly errors that have cost us so far this season. He's had a lot of money given him and has made other coaching appointments, so the time to deliver some tangible progress having spent even more money isn't that far away when you take out the close season. I wasn't excited or overwhelmed with Juniors appointment (like the vast majority of us on here I'd wager), but he has a while to go yet for me before I decide whether I think he's up to the job or not. But RP is also 100% correct in saying that if the fans turn against him, then LJ will be the first to know........
I'll be pleasantly surprised with 9th in May, forget 9th in November. I can't see it, you might, I can't.
I agree. Mid table would represent achievement from which we can build. Its still early days yet but we need to get a greater consistency. One or two recent performances have been quite poor
