Oh and that extra 4 makes ALL the difference!!

Attendance banter - well Tyneside has a population 3 times that of Wearside and yet your average attendance last season wasn't 3 times our average attendance and was also over 3000 less than your capacity - how's that possible?

Well it does actually because it's 47 fans more than Sunderland who have watched their club play in Europe. Let's us tell you because you obviously don't know due to never having the opportunity to travel to competitive European away matches, it's costs quite a penny. As for Tyneside being 3x larger in population, that all depends on which source you use to get your statistics as the Census includes Washington, Houghton-le-Spring and others within Tyneside's boundaries which I'm sure the vast majoirty of the residing population would strongly disagree. It also doesn't include as part of Wearside, Seaham and other surrounding settlements. A true reflection shows Wearside to be larger in area but as much as makes no difference, less populated. But if you want to use your statistics I'm happy because Tyneside therefore is larger than Wearside which by proper population statistics Tyneside has less population per square mile. More people will reside in larger areas of land. What all of this has to do with peoples willingness to attend football matches, I do not know!

I'm sure like most football fans, colours run in the family and just because I don't reside on Tyneside doesn't mean I don't have family connections.

Ah I see so we didn't play in the cup winners cup in 1973/74 did we???

By the way - The CWC in 73/74 was MUCH MORE competitive than the game you played on Thursday evening

Making a tit of yourself Toontastic, your original comments stated that the 47 fans were 47 more than Sunderland have ever had, yet this comment states that we've played 2 away games in European competition (and this was also as a 2nd division side) so yopur 47 fans more than Sunderland have EVER had watching us in european competition away from home is bollocks - particularluy as my Dad went to both of our away games in 73/74 season in a coach, part of a 5 coach party, each with over 45 people on them - learn your facts before posting your ****e

Anyway, we've both got hardly anything to boast about in recent history.

Football is very much a money making business. Trophies are meaningless nowadays. It's all about money, winning money and expanding revenue streams via European ventures.

Of course a trophy would be lovely but give me regular top 6 finishes all day long. There's no better feeling but yet again you don't know what that feels like either.

I actually feel a slightly sorry for Newcastle fans, and anyone else who has qualified for the Europa Cup in recent years..The powers that be have made a mockery of this in recent years, resulting in lots of games involving teams that would struggle in our lower leagues..They then have the failures from the Champions League (Champions: that's a bloody joke as well) dropping into the Europa at a later date, which in my opinion has helped to degrade the Europa even further to a second rate competition..
I think that the best solution would be to return to the three competitions with a Champions League and Cup Winners Cup for teams who have actually won domestic trophies, and a Europa Cup for the nearly men: eg, the runners up and in England's case, the League Cup winners as well.
I'm sure that many people will disagree with this, but there you go eh!

I suprisingly agree, the EL is devalued by the points you've raised

Yes, like I said a trophy would be nice but football is about progression and you don't get progression by winning a cup. See Boro, Pompey, Birmingham etc.

Progression = Money = Success and so on

There were 800 tickets on sale here yesterday (which is very unusual) and the word was that they were returns from Sunderland. We will be able to tell on Saturday as we always allocate 2000 seats to away fans in the Prem.

I wasn't having a pop at Sunderland because you are one of the best supported Clubs in the country <ok>

You could always remind us about your last trophy win in FA Cup? Any pictures though would be in grainy black and white images. We can still do our in colour.
