It really is about time we realise that we are not that good and the league table doesn't lie. What makes us think, looking at our squad that we should be challenging for promotion? What frustrates me the most, as I have said before is if we were mid table with home grown players as opposed to journeymen then I ,for one, would settle for that for this season,at least. Are you telling me that furlong/kwepka, harriman ,doughty etc are worse than perch,Koch, toszer etc? We need to scrub this season NOW, bring in the kids and either spend the money we get for free, green and Austin, wisely or bank it but either way it's just not enjoyable having days like today. We will finish within 2 or 3 points and places of the likes of Huddersfield as we are not better than them on the pitch, forget paper. Clive W says it far more eloquently and hits the nail on the head.
Even if by some miracle this lot got promoted it would be pointless. The whole club is built on sand until we have a relatively cheap and young team and make some progress off the pitch. Five years and £250m into the ownership of Fernandes and we have an old, expensive team and the same crap infrastructure as when he took over. I couldn't agree more that the young players would be at least no worse and probably better. Certainly better given some time. This club constantly focuses on the immediate future.
I suspect if we played the 3/4 youngsters you mention most games, we'd be deep in the relegation struggle.
Not sure how many games u get to see but if today was one of them, you would not make such an ill judged comment. Or Fulham,Brentford,Ipswich,Bristol city, burnley, to name a few games which were dire.
Why? I'm not advocating playing teenagers but young, senior players to take the place of horrendously under-performing 'names'. What can Green, Konchesky, Perch, Henry and Fer offer that their understudies can't?
I was referring to playing the 3/4 players mentioned in the OP - Furlong, Kwepka, Doughty and Harrison - all together. From what I've seen of them they are not quite good enough at this level, and playing them all instead of the current ones, who whatever their failings have some experience and have us mid table, would be a disaster. Playing one or two of the best youngsters not on loan, off the Bench to start with, would be the best way for me.
Only one way to find out. The question posed was whether those players would be worse than the current full-backs and Toszer. I doubt they would be and it would certainly make the team a lot more likeable and stronger in future.
I think it would've been better if we gave one of the youngster's a go in one of the peripheral positions, ie, full back or on the wings. To play three or four at the same time would more than likely render us in a relegation struggle. Fulham tried to play with a majority of home-grown youngsters last season and struggled in the lower regions of the league and their academy is stronger than ours.
The sad fact is we can't create the talent without the infrastructure. We have to buy it ready made or do a Luton and never come back. We are stuck in a vicious circle, that's why some are so angry at how the money got spunked on players like Ceasr & Park when we had Green & let Routledge go without a bid. Lessons are not learned, after 4's year they still train on unsuitable pitches. Why rebuild on that?
My sentiments exactly. Kpekawa and Yun should be the two choices at LB. Doughty and Furlong should always be on the bench, while yesterday would have been the ideal game to give both or one of them a start. Petrasso deemed as being good enough by Colin, but not even good enough for the bench according to Ramsey and JFH. Yesterday was so awful that I am contemplating taking a break from watching and reading about QPR. This would be the first time ever in my lifetime.
A team of relatively inexperienced youngsters would need time and would likely struggle in this league but ultimately may come good in the end. Problem is no football fan has the patience to watch this develop and as soon as you have a string of bad results there would be calls for more experience in the team. Basically damned if you do damned if you don't and I really believe there is an element of our fanbase who hinder more than support the team.
Were you there yesterday Frome? I think most would be much happier seeing a bunch of youngsters play crappy, aimless football than a bunch of overpaid, overrated 'senior professionals' doing the same.
