Parachute payments aren't as much as TV rights. Mr. Pearson himself said we'd have been better off if we avoided relegation, which begs the question why did he employ Dowie? A farcical decision that would have (and quite rightly) cost any other chairman their job. At this point, Bartlett should have realised his PR stunt had gone horribly wrong and got rid.
Indeed, but it was made worse by the stupid decision made by Mr. Pearson. A nameless chairman with no history/ego/jealousy would have been better to lead us out of the mess. It's still a concern that he's here.
