From Sky Sports - How is your algebra and probability prowess? The methodology behind the system can be complicated. Each team is given a strength value based on results of league and continental competition from the three consecutive seasons pre-July 2007, this gives those bigger clubs a higher starting position, and a true representation of the calibre of clubs. Then, simply put, you get more points for victories when the probability of success is lower, taking into account home advantage and strength of opponent. In essence, the teams that perform better than expected can rise up the rankings - hence the Hammers' success - while bigger clubs who under-perform can see those below close the gap, with United's plight a prime example.
How in the **** are Arsenal above Chelsea and United, when they haven't won the league in over a decade? How are Spurs one spot behind United when they have won jack **** in 20 years? how on earth could Arsenal be above us, when they haven't finished above us in the league since 2012, and since then have won just 2 FA cups, where as Chelsea have won 1 League title, 1 Fa cup, 1 European Cup, 1 UEFA Cup and 1 League cup? And Arsenal have been total ****e in Europe since 2006, in that time Chelsea have been in 2 CL finals, winning one.
Makes no sense whatsoever. How are Sevilla above us too? They, like Arsenal, have won 2 trophies in the last ten years. Last season they won the Europa league, last season we won the Premier league and the league cup. Is this table suggesting a Europa league trumps a Premier league title and a league cup combined?
Why do you care about a meaningless table? It's irrelevant. Based on something nobody gives a fck about, when all that matters are the actual trophies won
Piss off you Just makes me laugh how they cook these tables up, would love to know the math behind it! Did Astro make this table?
I used to watch this programme about 15 years ago on Eurosport that did this. It was on EVERY week. It was mildly interesting bcos it was like the footballing equivalent of a Top of the Pops countdown to number 1. But other than that it made little sense. I think the table above is not just trophies but also games won. A bit like why England end up being ranked so highly,
I think that's being quite generous to United. It will have CFC Champions of Random Statistics spitting feathers though. He loves these pointless European league tables as he usually finds/commissions one that has Chelsea 4th behind the big 3.
