Bristol City: Robins join chase for out-of-contract Preston North End winger Josh Brownhill. a_stockhausen please log in to view this image Josh BrownhillBRISTOL City have joined the race for Preston North End winger Josh Brownhill. Currently on loan at League One Barnsley, the 20-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season and is not expected to sign a new deal at Deepdale. According to a report by HITC Sport, the Robins could face competition from fellow Championship clubs Fulham and Queens Park Rangers. But the fact Lee Johnson is head coach at Ashton Gate could give the Robins a crucial advantage over their rivals. In charge at Barnsley up until February, Johnson was the man responsible for taking the winger from Preston to Oakwell earlier this season. Brownhill has made a big impact at Barnsley, helping them lift the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and challenge for a play-off place. The Yorkshire club are keen to sign him on a permanent basis, but are unlikely to be able to compete financially with bigger Championship suitors. Appointed head coach at City in early February, Johnson has made no secret of the need to strengthen his squad during the close season and he is in the market for a right winger. He clearly thinks highly of Brownhill, having already signed him once. Reportedly the subject of interest from Scottish clubs Celtic and Glasgow Rangers, Brownhill has expressed a wish to remain south of the border. Because of his age, Preston will be due compensation if the winger leaves Deepdale in the summer. http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Bristol-City-Robins-linked-potential-Preston/story-29138445-detail/story.html
