Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has assured fans they're in talks for new signings. Manager Steve Bruce hopes to push through Bosman free transfer deals for Coventry keeper Keiren Westwood and Birmingham City midfielder Sebastian Larsson after wasting no time in making his interest known. Quinn said: "What I can say is that we are in a number of meaningful negotiations to bring players in and when there's anything definitive to report, it will be on our club website for our fans to read." Quinn also refuted yesterday reports Sunderland were shopping Asamoah Gyan around the Premier League But the website seem to be behind when it comes to breaking news... Don't know who these players are, but he said "a number of players"
Bloody Arsenal.. Arsenal have joined the Bosman battle for Birmingham City winger Sebastian Larsson. Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland and Newcastle United have also made offers. The Swede is keen to remain in England.
Think Larsson would be a good move for you if you get Crouch or N'Gog as they're both tall players who'll need decent crosses coming in , something that Larsson can provide.
Good for them, thought he had dodgy knee's and wanted a fortune. Obviously not.. Newcastle United have won the race for Demba Ba, Sky Sports sources understand. A number of clubs have been tracking Ba since it emerged he could leave on a free transfer following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League. The Senegal international has been weighing up his options, but it emerged it was a straight fight between Everton and Newcastle. Ba has now decided that his future is best served on Tyneside, and Sky Sports sources understand he is now travelling to the North East. The 26-year-old will finalise his deal in the next 24 hours and could be confirmed as a Newcastle player before the weekend
I agree with this. If Larsson powers a cross at N'Gogs face and David can't get out the way in time it might bounce into the net. I can trust Larsson's crossing accuracy. Can we trust N'gog to put his face in the way accidentally?
Free? he'll cost you 3.5m per year PLUS a negotiated siging fee PLUS his agents fees (reported last week as astronomical in one paper). Got a good record last year for W Ham but a very good friend of mine and season ticket holder at Upton Park, was totally neutral about him overall, which is why I wasnt that bothered about the lad. Could be a bit of a disrutptive influence as well he told me. We shall see.
You'd prefer Ba to Gyan? I don't think you'd find one Sunderland fan who'd lose Gyan to sign Ba. So you won't be agreed with much on here.
31 appearances, not games. Probably more like 20, so 50% goal rate roughly which is about the same as Ba. I wasn't inferring Gyan is a world beater either though.
Ba is a great signing for them. He'd have worked class with Larsson. To suggest he's half the talent Gyan is is borderline certifiable.
