At least we actually bothered to try and chase the best team in the league for 34 and a half games...chelsea gave up in August and Arsenal in February Chelsea ... from league champions to this in less than a year
I knew he played for you but not at full back...he was a striker with us...or at least I thought he was!
I have had enough disappointment in the past 24 hrs without you taking my memories from me you dirty low down mo fo
Yes he was. Scored four in a game for your v one of the Bristol clubs?? Geoff Hurst started him as a striker then the brilliant manager John Neal converted him to full back.
I was 10 when he scored those 4 goals. We were in the 2nd division and it was his debut and we won 9 nil. It was my first proper season of following all our matches on the radio on a Saturday afternoon. I was a fan since I was around 7 but my mums husband was a violent ****er who supported pool (hence my illogical hatred of them ) so I never got to talk football or go to matches. I remember hiding away either in my room or disappearing off out at mid day when the football programme started on the radio and not returning until gone 6 when it finished. Spurs got me through an ugly childhood and that 9 nil game was something that made the crap home life seem bearable. Hence my remembering colin lee. Used to have a broken subbuetto goal and a keeper on a stick that I found somewhere and used to roll up balls of paper and re-enact matches from the the radio reports. When ever he hurt or threatened to hurt me I would play out the 9 nil match and life would be good again. so not only do I remember colin lee...he was my god damn therapist
Your mum's husband sounds like he was a grade A ****. Did you ever get the chance to teach him some manners?
when he was pissed or cocky or both he tried taking me as a 16 or 17 year old and I snapped and grabbed a knife ... I decided it was best I leave after that...slicing and dicing my mothers husband wouldn't have gone down well in the family! Weren't looking for sympathy...got a fantastic other half and 2 brilliant daughters that he knows nothing about so my adult life could not be better...apart from the bloody Leicester thing
Fair enough fella. I was hoping you'd had the opportunity to give him a slap before you waved him goodbye!
Fantastic story, and very moving You should write Colin Lee and tell him. He would really appreciate it. I don't think he has much of a connection with Chelsea these days, but I can find out. Chelsea fans warmed to Colin despite being ex Spud. He still scored goals even from full back, took pens still. The next Spid we signed Mark Falcao on loan got the most hideous abuse ever. Mike Hazard was skilful and long ball Hollins never reckoned him. Fans never really warmed to him
Hoddle was our best ex spud... done wonders at our club and getting Gullit was a masterstroke. I'd have him back tomorrow,no chance of that though.Graham Roberts weren't bad either.
Didn't we get Hod from Swindon and Roberts from Rangers? Think Lee Haza and Falcao were direct from three point lane!
