I thought I would offer a different view on things. At the start of the season I conducted a poll to see where people thought we would finish in the league, this was conducted not long before the Norwich game so we had most our signings by then. I think not one person predicted we would be anywhere near the relegation zone let alone bottom all season. All the pundits said we would be fine, mid table, and all through our initial defeats all the pundits were saying we have the 'quality' to move right up the table. So I put this question to you, we're we all fooled by Mark Hughes? Me, you, the QPR shareholders? If we all thought they were good signings at the time then Mark Hughes is likely to have thought the same, I'm not defending mark, infact I think he is a complete t*** for what he has done to this club, however how much of the blame do we put on Hughes and how much on the mercenaries he purchased?
I thought that the team would have fared much better than we have. I saw it mid-table, I admit. But I also was one of the early callers for Hughes' head once the defeats started to mount up. I recall saying that I'd not do this until the team lost three on the trot; this happened fairly swiftly.
I only mentioned this in the pub before the Wigan game last sunday. I was looking for an old thread ( Can't remember which one now. ) and I came across your old thread. I noticed that only one person predicted a relegation finish.
The players must take part of the team. Look at our team on paper some real quality players. The question is we had the players to do what Villa and Southampton have but we don't seem to have any belief. Could be this is why players don't look like they give a ****e, but they are pros and getting paid a lot. Should do better. We could finish the season bottom yet.
Not me but a Scum fan!! http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/157644-QPR-amp-Chelsea-fan-one-of-us-us-deluded So very sad.
I don't actually think I was deluded but perhaps misled and seduced by big bucks and big names. I suppose the only good thing to say is that it has been a chastening experience from which I will learn to manage my expectations with more wisdom in the future. Until we are as good as Man U!
Not for me but thank you very much for your sincere efforts to help QPR this season. The four points were very much appreciated. Incidentally, your board after little old QPR beat the Champions of Europe at their fortress, was also a good read too.
Everyone ignore. Completely ignore. We've never really tried the ignoring approach. See how long he stays around. Regarding the OP, I didn't post on that thread, but I was confident of a good season. In hindsight, we seem to have just tried to be too big too quickly. The team that won us the league was cast aside and largely replaced with the big earners, as was the man who lead that charge. We won that title with solid, uncomplicated hard work, hunting in packs and insisting on possession, with the unplayable taarabt adding the magic. Aghh, there are so many reasons for our lack of success, we all know what they are, but once you get to the end of that list, had we had it about ourselves to hold on and beat Villa, I think we'd have done it. The numbness I feel at the moment is the middle ground between anger and acceptance.
I think I went an optimistic 17th for this season before it started. Never thought Hughes should have been given the job, and his summer signings were both mostly ageing Cr*p, and failed to cover our two weak areas, striker and CB. Never understood the pre-season optimism on here.
As others have probably stated more or less .................... we can safely align 75% of the blame to MH, 20% of the blame to the players and 5% of the blame to the fact that, sh_it happens!
With the quality of players we had we should have done much better. I always felt we needed a Samba-like centre-back and a better quality left back from the start. Also, MH's decision to sell HH and leave us light upfront was underlined by Johnson's early injury which highlighted his suspect policy of signing old injury-prone players. Worst of the lot IMHO was Granero who has been a major disappointment this season, the player who was going to be our playmaker has turned out to be a lightweight turkey and the imbalance that has created in our team has never been successfully redressed all season. So many others have failed to even find average form this season, Faurlin, Taarabt, Hoilett, Park, Diakite, I could go on through most of the squad to be honest. TF deserves the utmost credit for financing the assembly of this squad, sadly, the players have thoroughly let everyone down and I hope there is a major cull at the end of the season as many are not fit to wear the Hoops...
Na. Always appreciated your sensible perspective. One of my best mates is a Chelsea fan. So there's at least two of you that are ok!
Time for me to 'fess up, Sooper. I have a Chelsea mug in the cupboard for his exclusive use! I will understand if the mods ban me!!
