Skysports.com (and Ellandback) understand a number of Championship sides are tracking Stevenage winger Lawrie Wilson. The former Charlton trainee has established himself as a key member of the Stevenage side since arriving at the club in 2007. The 24-year-old has played an instrumental role in Stevenage's rise from the Conference to League One over the last couple of seasons. Wilson's impressive performances at Broadhall Way have caught the attention of several clubs higher up the Football League who are weighing up moves for the player. The likes of Leeds, Cardiff and Watford are all thought to be keeping tabs on Wilson ahead of the transfer window reopening in January. Wilson has 18 months left on his current contract and Stevenage would find it hard to reject a sizeable offer for the player if any of his suitors firm up their interest in the midfielder.
Presumably he would play on the left & therefore be in posession of a solid left foot. He would therefore be cover/replacement for Sam. He would be competing after last night with White/Pugh for the wide left spot. Given how well those two seem to be doing as a partnership, not sure I see why SG would bring someone in to potentially upset the apple cart. Competition at RB would seem to be more of a priority.
We're surprisingly thin on wingers at the moment. Sam isn't doing amazingly on the left wing, and while he's not doing terrible, White is significantly better. Pugh is a left mid, not a left winger. White is our only truly talented left winger who runs the line and cuts in, and can take on players without breaking a sweat. If he were to get injured, we'd be left very inflexible down the left side. I'm all for this move if he's good on the left.
