He is called Olifinjana. I think thats how it's spelt? He had trial in the Reserves at Ferriby just before Xmas. He had a steady game and looked every bit African international class. I think he will come on a free and I am sure to get an equivalent on the open market would cost £2 million. I am sure Barmby can persuade him to play, even for 6 months! Edit Harper moves on in January with Cairney going on loan to Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell or similar to pay his wages
Well Nick Barmby has gone on record as saying that Oli is up for it and he rates him. Oli also ticks the few remaining boxes of what we are missing.
Will he be available during the ACON? Seems a bit short-sighted to sign an African player at this time of year!
I think he will prove to be a major signing for us! He has premier league experience with the likes of Wolves/Stoke/Hull. Not to mention plently of time well spent in the Championship under his belt. He was a real hit with Cardiff last season for example.
He doesn't have premier league experience with Wolves or Stoke. Edit: He may have some with wolves from years ago actually,
Not really sure how his wages are a stumbling block - we are already paying them Olafinjana - 2nd touch is a tackle and for a man of his size he doesnt use his size to his advantage
Can't say I'd agree with that. His ball control and technical ability were good if memory serves me well. It's his inability to stamp any kind of authority on a game which frustrates me. He plays centre mid and is built like barn so should be able to impose himself a lot more than he does. Great addition at this time of the season though. From what I hear he has a superb attitude and is a model pro so I can't see why NB wouldn't use him.
I completely disagree with that. All we are missing is for some of our chances to start going in. The midfield in particular have done brilliantly well lately. I wouldn't even consider dropping McKenna, Evans or Koren to make room for Oli to prance about being a pussy. That said, his previous success with Wolves makes me think there must be somethingabout him...
I wouldn't drop any of the current starting midfielders either. Thing is games will be coming thick and fast as will injuries, fatigue, loss of individual form and suspensions. With Koren playing in a free role all it would take is one of the above to happen either McKenna or Evans and then what? Oli is a more than capable replacement.
