News today (and last few days) is saying how close we nearly came to DIC buying the club instead of H&G. It was all agreed but like so many things with the club it all got delayed until too late. LFC paniced and courted H&G instead.

Parry blames DIC for dillydallying. I'm sure DIC would probably blame Parry and Moore.

On one hand it's a shame this never occurred. They promised huge investment (the kind that Man City got). A huge new 70k stadium (they would foot the bill to improve infrastructure to get city approval of stadium that size).

Money doesn't buy success but can't help but believe Rafa could have won us the title on that budget and momentum would follow- he came close without DIC money. He did great in the early years when allowed to spend. It was later when he sold more than bought that we did badly.

Of course, DIC a few years later hit financial turbulence but by that point we would have already had investment (potentially) and maybe warning more ourselves.

Of course we'd be criticised like
Ch£lsea and Cit¥ are... But would it be worth it to be one of the megarich.

Funny how over a few years we went from stable to almost a megarich club to almost bankrupt to stable again. We came so close to the ultimate high and low in financial terms over a few short years.

I think Moores said some time later that there were a couple of warning signs with DIC, one being they had a 7 year exit strategy and the other being that they intended to raise £300 million in working capital (debt), secured against the club. Having already said yes to them he changed his mind and asked them for more time to think about it, they didn't want that and pulled out. Who knows where would be now if it had gone through.

Still happier we're doing it the proper way, even if it takes another quarter of a century. Cannot abide money clubs.

I read that Everton were being looked at as a possible target for this American consortium. They've valued themselves £100m over what they're really worth. Despite what he's said in the past about selling, I don't think Kenwright really wants to sell at all.

I'd rather win this way too. Most fans would but I don't hear anyone from Chelsea or City saying they wish they could go back to being poor and consistently mediocre.

Its never been a level playing field really though. The only way you get level is everyone amateur and no transfers allowed.

Yes, there is a difference between earning your way and just throwing money in from a sugar daddy but it's still not level.

I'd rather win without a sugar daddy but I'd rather win with a sugar daddy than not win at-all.

    Why would he?

His position at EFC keeps him in the limelight more than his stage productions do and the expenses pay for the champers and cucumber sandwiches for his lovey actor friends.<whistle>

No, and it never will be.
However, to extend the metaphor, there's a big difference between a bit of a slope and the Alpine proportions we have now.
I'd rather effective measures were taken to limit the amount of inward investment from non-footballing sources and bring the big boys down a bit, rather than everyone else hoping to get up to compete with them.
So at the moment we have 2 big sugar-daddy clubs- even if half a dozen more got to the same level that doesn't make it any fairer for the rest, less so in fact.
In practice, of course, it's unlikely that sugar-daddies would buy too many clubs in the same league, because they'd be less able to dominate it. For most of them it seems like a plaything or ego trip exercise.

I don't disagree. Merely saying if there has to be a club with an unfair financial advantage I'd rather it be mine. <laugh>

I'd rather there be no sugar daddies at all though. At the time DIC was courting us City were still "poor". If Liverpool bought us chances are City wouldn't be a rich club today their money would have gone overseas to a country without 2 sugar daddies already.

He clearly makes more from his productions than the zero dividends paid for the lasr5 years to shareholders

    Bite!

But seriously where has ALL the EFC dosh been going from the EFC coffers during Bill's tenure?

Moyes had to manage on virtually a shoestring.

Kenwright wants to sell but only to idiot buyer that will pay way more than its worth.

Kenwright himself isn't an idiot he knows that one will eventually come along and in the meantime he owns a football club.

    Bite?

It's just common knowledge. As for the money, nothing illegal that's for sure as the accounts are in the public domain.

So the money from Bellfield for example went on?

Loads of blues suspect there's skullduggery going on behind the scenes, but as long as your happy that's the main thing.

Loads my suspect, but they can't prove anything as it appears nothing has gone 'missing'

Am I happy? No. Once the Moores money went consecutive boards never built on that. Or built on our position at the start of the PL and it's been catch up since. Liverpool bemoan almost going bankrupt, but imagine that each year from when Johnson took over to just a few seasons ago.

If the takiver happens then I hope they keep building on the stability we finally look to have. It's all built on 'vanished cash'
