1st win in the Premier League season 2013/14 1st goal Pablo Hernandez has scored away from the Liberty Stadium Swansea had 55% possession - more than any other team that played on Sunday 1st September WBA only had one shot on goal All of Swansea's League goals have come from inside the area With the win, it moves Swansea out of the bottom 3 of the Premier League table for the first time this season These were goals 12 and 13 for the Swans in competitive matches First clean sheet for Michel Vorm in the 2013/14 Premier League season Swansea's highest pass accuracy so far this season with 90% The least amount of defensive actions the Swans have had to make in the Premier League so far this season Discuss
We came, we saw, we conquered. Pretty simple really. When we play our brand of football to the appropriate level we take some beating. It's too early to tell where WBA are likely to finish - but Anelka had better stay healthy. If you want to scrutinize the game there were facits where we could have done better, but as a result it was perfect - 3 points, no injuries (I think), control of the game. Bank it and look forward to 'Pool.
Wba missed a great chance so werode our luck a little bit. Life at the top table is tough so its important to Get a slice of luck something we didnt get Spurs and utd. I feel we did a great job up There and it shows when the focus is good so Are we
I'm not sure if we were lucky Norway...... if they didn't take their chances then that's poor finishing isn't it ? Lucky is when a ball hits the post and goes straight back into the goalies arms etc. Anelka had their best chance but blew it. We probably would have been unimpressed if Bony had missed it I think. There was that poxy header they had as well, otherwise we did good. I can only remember Shelvey playing one bad long ball that got us into trouble early on - after that he was much more level headed. I think the Liverpool match will be much more difficult but I see no reason to fear them. They've beaten Stoke and Villa. United was no surprise - it's Liverpools biggest game of the season and those type of matches are bubble games that can go either way. Thanks for the stats Bony.
I can't remember a shot on target. The closest they came to scoring was Anelka's shot past the post, and a header from a corner which hit one of their own players and that was it.
Vorm didn't have to make one save , yes Anelka missed by inches but thats the margins between winning and losing .& i got my scarf today
Im not going to get into a debate on what is lucky or not but lets be honest the free header they missed was bit of a shocker, why Pablo had to track the runner ive no idea as I thought we were zonal marking for set pieces but IMO we had a bit of luck there no doubt. If they score then doubts would have crept in to our boys and confidence might have taken a knock, putting us off our game a little bit and making us chase and force passes. Im not taking anything away from a very difficult fixture and I was absolutely thrilled with the performance and the win. As I mentioned before luck plays a part with any game at this level because the teams are so well matched, Swansea cant garentee a result against anyone and its a bit foolish to think that we can. My point was that we had a bit of luck at the right time in that game where we had none what so ever against Utd and Spurs. Utd got very lucky with the first two goals against us due to pathetic defending but put the chances in,on another day we would have got away with them and the result might well have been different as we were dominating them at the time. Luck is needed in every game we play at this level and thankfully we had a bit against WBA, im not detracting from our performance just acknowledging that we had a bit of good fortune that was needed in that fixture for us to get our tails up and push on for the win. We may well have won even going a goal down but I believe that confidence was a key factor, sometimes you ride your luck and IMO we got the slice of it we needed, the players can push on from here now knowing they are not bottom going into the international break. Judging by the crazy comments after the Spurs win the general feeling was that of a bit of pressure building, my personal opinon was that we were always going in the right direction and didn't get any breaks in the first few games
I must also add that you can define luck in many ways ie, it was lucky for us the guy got the header wrong,he probably would bury that 99 times out of a hundred. You are right to define luck your own way of course, it depends on your perspective of things I guess . Man uts got lucky when Ben came in off his line and missed his defensive header. Bad defending for one team= good luck for another team Bad finishing for one team = good luck for the defending team I think I could argue that ..
great win on the day but can't get carried away as it could have easily gone the other way if WBA finishing was better. pretty even teams really that there won't be much between them at the end of the season. we have had plenty of games ourselves where we lost because of our poor finishing so i won't get carried away that we have turned the corner yet...
